Hello fellow members,

I am currently driving my partners E87 120D.

we bought the car thinking i knew what the problem was, as normally i can knock a problem on the head...
but this time...oh boy i was wrong..cry

PROBLEM:
when i drive the car and push the throttle down to speed up i get the half symbol engine light indicating i have 50% power.

i done a scope test on the fuel rail pressure sensor as it should read after stamping the throttle 4V but i only seem to be able to get 2.3V MAX.

so i changed the fuel filter.

and i immediately went and bought a new sensor thinking it would solve all my problems. NOTHING! so i put the old one in as there would no point spending money i dont need too.

after further examination with a garage we changed the HPFP. NOTHING!

changed the lift pump and checked lines for grit and debris. made the problem kick in later but still no use!

so i started the think i had a leaky injector so i preformed a leak back test. non of them leaked more than 40ml per min so they are all ok.

changed the fuel pressure regulator,NOTHING

changed the fuel temperature sensor, made the problem slightly better but still goes into limp mode / cuts out.

im pretty sure i have covered the whole fuel system now ! banghead

but i done some research i found that the APP (accelerator pedal postion) can throw the code P3002 ?

PLEASE BARE IN MIND: it does seem to only happen when i go over half throttle, so this is why i think the pressure sensor reading could be linked to the APP?

if someone would like to watch a video im am more than happy to take someones number and whats app you the video!

i just dont want to keep spending dead money!

sorry for killing everyones eyes with this post lol,

many thanks
Harrison

This probably wont help, but worth a go, the last time I had the half power or restricted power light come up on my dash (assuming its the same thing, is it the management light half coloured and half not?) basically I took off one of the turbo inlet pipes, my car is a 335i though and it wasn't quite put on right and when i drove it that symbol came up, re connected it properly and job done. worth a punt maybe?

Unfortunately not! I ended swapping the car for a land rover 🤣 I'm next to 100% sure it was a faulty injector due to process of elimination.

If a injector will not function properly and deliver the correct amount / volume of fuel I'm asking it will knock its self into limp mode (rule of thumb)

Or it could be throttle position sensor! Only problem was that my e87 was showing HPFP code even tho I had just fitted a new one and everything pre fuel rail had been changed. Was an absolute nightmare. No one had had this problem before and so I couldnt find help

What is the error code for HPFP? I am getting 4560 and 4570 (Rail Pressure Plausibility) so I am not sure if it is HPFP or something else. I tried using the diesel additives for cleaning the whole fuel system and helps for a few months and then problem starting to appear again..

Coor this is a blast from the past.

After I swapped the car, I do believe I had a dead throttle position sensor (APP, or accelerator peddle position sensor)

These are a common fault , this would would cause symptoms of a half peddle to cause limp mode (almost every single time in the same place.

If your adding additives and its make it better have you checked your fuel filter ?
