Did a quick oil change today. Before change was showing max.
Vacced out about 7.5L.

Put in 6.7L on the basis that I could add a bit more if needed but was hoping it would show about mid way.

Waited for the reading only for it to be showing max again...

Hm, so a bit unsure if its reading correctly. I know I put enough oil in - in that there is enough for the engine to run ok, but might it have too much?

A dip stick would really make life a lot easier!!

Assuming conditions for reading were met - see handbook - my understanding is that it will show the level when the bonnet was last opened, so may be before change.. Have you driven the car, warmed the engine and re-checked?

Yes but did not open the bonnet once it was closed after the change. Just seems odd to me that its got 0.7L less oil but still showing max.

Have to admit, struggling a lot to get an oil level reading from the car. Admittedly a C6 but imagine it is the same system. Whilst being a facelift it does still have an oil level system within the MMI, so would like to try to get it working. BMW seem to have it sorted really well on the X5, even though that has a dipstick the apparently ancient iDrive on that gives oil readings every time.

Am I doing it wrong? Any other method of reading the oil level through the MMI? It has the 3G High system with the joystick on the controller.

I had a C6 and that seemed to work ok. The C7 not so sure tbh might try and remove half a litre of oil and see what it says !
