Looking to go maybe late July time. Where should I be looking for the best deals?

Anyone got anywhere on the web to look - good/bad experiences of flight/hotels/deals etc.

I got a cracking deal on airline network to NY, paid about half price for premium economy seats on BA, excellent value. Used these guys a few times and nearly always the best deal

We flew BA from Heathrow. Price and service was excellent.

We stayed in the Novotel just off Times Square - nice hotel, reasonable price.

Myself and a colleage also flew BA from Heathrow into Newark about a month ago. Excellent service from BA, as one would expect. Stayed at the Plaza on 59th & 5th which is just on the edge of Central Park. Hotel was exceptionally good.

The Wardorf Est is also V Good.

also try www.expedia.co.uk/ and www.opodo.co.uk and also check the airline websites directly as they often have deals. So - Virgin, BA, AA, United, but also you can get some cheap deals by not flying direct, I once paid only £112 return on Sabena via Brussels, takes a bit longer but balanced somewhat by flying from City airport, quicker check-in and nearer to my house.

For hotels it rather depends on what part of town you want to stay in but try www.starwood.com as the W hotels are quite funky and the one on Lexington Av has a cool bar.

I quite fancy doing this for a laugh sometime. Fly out there, couple of days in an average hotel, see the sights.

It pays to regularly check for deals, and be flexible on dates. Flights are the most variable in terms of price. You seem to be able to get down to £250 including taxes if you don't mind exactly when you go. For that price you get BA or Virgin, which are both nice. If you are not flecible, thiis seems to shoot up to £400.

If you are out here for a good time, the hotel is not so important. A Days In, or something similar will be clean, efficient, and cheap, and you will spend very little time there. Expedia seems pretty good for these.

As to where to stay, Manhattan is pretty compact. Anywhere south of central Parl will let you easily get around. Cabs are cheap, and the south end of the island offers most places to go out. Fashionable right now is the meat packing district (Gansevoort hotel is popular), or the Village/
