Midweek couple of days away in Europe....Where ?

Myself, Mrs Li'l Pugs and mini pugs are looking to take a quick couple of days break, midweek, in July and are trying to think of where.
Mini pugs will only be 14 months old so not really intesrested in entertaining her (so no Euro Disney), but want someone interesting that we've not been to before.
Venice is currently top of the list with Madrid closely behind, any other ideas ?

If it's a city break you are after, then Barcelona is supposed to be good (although I have'nt been!)

Paris: to obvious.

The problem is, we have been doing cruise holidays around the med for the passed couple of years, so have visited a lot of places already. (I know some are well in-land but you know what I mean !)

Barcelona, Naples, Pisa, Rome, Paris, Monaco, Genoa, Marseille (sp?).

We went to Bruges the other weekend. I'm not really a big town or city fan (no football puns, perlease), but I really liked the place. Loads of canals, interesting architecture, Trappist beers etc. And it's all in a fairly small area.

Budapest. Went there for 3 days last week, fantastic place, European, food and drink fairly cheap, other prices not too far off UK, but seemed to be Westernised without the chav element.

(Went Easyjet from Newcastle, but think there are Easyjet flights from Luton too).

Prague. Truly outstanding beer.

How about Amsterdam? It's a bit bohemian for a family outing but there are other attractions. If you want a leather jacket you can save back a lot of your air fare on that..

Do Freiburg and you've Alsace 20 minutes drive away, Schlumpf Bugatti and Train museum in Mulhouse, Not forgetting good food and great wines. fly by EasyJet to Basel/Mulhouse from Luton...mail me off list if you've any questions as I live there!

Budapest is awesome, really beautiful, easygoing and fun. Easy to get around, great hotels, cheap living.

Alternatively, Prague; Vienna; Tallinn; Rejkyavik (sp?) all awesome fun, though the beer is bloody expensive in Iceland.

Helsinki nice to look at but a bit dull.

Paris= cliche.

Dusseldorf ok.

Lisbon ok.

Sofia was wierd, though it's a few years since I was there, as with most Eastern European cities it's probably improved loads since. Tirana bit dodgy but see Sofia comment.

I've just realised how boring I'm being, please see top of post for my real recommendation.
