Just found out that Monday 16th is a bank holiday in Catalonia so I have an unexpected three day weekend on my hands. I’d quite like to get away from Barcelona for a break.

So any ideas on where? I have a car so I was thinking maybe a drive over the border to Perpingnan (sp?) or maybe a train to Madrid or a cheap flight to Paris or somewhere in Italy? Suggestions please…

If you're set on Perpignan stay at www.croquelalune.com, I stayed there last October, but there's nothing much to do in Perpignan IMHO.

However it's worth taking the train /driving down the coast to Collioure for the day

The Ille De Rey (sp?) near La Rochelle is fantastic if you're looking for a quiet weekend with a nice drive there and back.

It's reasonably cheap too.

It's Ille de Re.

Spent much of my youth there.

St Martin is nice place to relax watching workd go by.

Good market in the brilliantly named Ars-en-Re

Just across the border before you get to Perpignan, is Port Vende, gorgeous food, fantastic roads.

Port Vendres you mean? Thanks! I may check it out.

That run from Colera to Banyuls-sur-Mar looks rather interesting. Shame I only have a 1.8 Mondeo to do it in.
