My snare has a very light tinny sound .. great for cracking out rock beats, but noticed it really sat uneasy over shakira's *underneath your clothes* tonight .. I'd really like a deeper snare sound .. the one i really like is karen carpenter's in their version of *desperado* .. very deep and mellow

I've heard of twin layer oil damped skins but are they deeper tone or just dull?

any suggestions for a deeper snare?

thanks in advance..

Heavier skins, IIRC. You could go deeper which makes it a fuller sound, not as staccato though. I would also look at damping quality from the shell material(not sure about this). Was always trying to get my drummer to have a snappier snare and we were working in the opposite direction.

Piccolo mad down here.

Blimey it's hi-tech these days...so why not go synthetic and chane the software setting?

Back in them there days when I were a lad all we did was a) alter the position across the skin that got the thraiping b) adjust the damper lever c) buy another snare.

Orthodox are we? Could never hack that.

Are you using a steel snare? I would recommend one of these sir....

Have been using one for quite a while now and it's bar far the most versatile snare I've played. Hard edged yet mellow when you want it to be. I usually use Ambassador skins too.

Have you got an o-ring on the snare - that will kill some of the tininess (as well as the ringing).
