Cardboard Boxes?

A quickie.

Mrs zcacogp and I are moving house. And (in true Woman style) she wants some nice, clean, regular-sized cardboard boxes to use. Strong, too.

Where can I buy these things? I am baulking slightly at Big Yellow Self Storage wanting £45+ for a few cardboard boxes (and about 6 inches of bubblewrap, of course.)

Any ideas?

Pop round your local off-licence...wine boxes are fairly sturdy

IT department if you work in a fairly large comapny. They're usually drowning in computer boxes of various sizes.

I went to my local movers company and bought boxes. They are folded so I could buy 20 on the spot and a roll of tape later I was sorted

When I moved I got some from Ikea which were very good. About £3 for 2 for large ones. I still use them in the loft for storage and they're designed so the bottom doesn't fall out. No tape required. They even survived a second house move for my mum too!

Oli, are you shifting your house contents yourself or getting a removals firm in? Most removals places provide boxes FOC... (obviously you have to pay for the actual moving)

Try a local packaging manufacturing company. I did this as DS Smith was round the corner. They could have give me all I needed for free. Obviously they have stuff which is over production and its easier to give them away than to organise disposal.....

If you plan to use a removals company then they will often provide you with cardboard boxes well in advance of moving. That's what we've done in the past.

No, we are doing it ourselves. 2 bed flat (anyone here want to buy it, BTW?), to a small house. Within London. Therefore, no removals company, so we have to arrange our own "cartons".

TrevorW - thanks for the link. There are several like this; but I baulk at paying a reasonable amount of money (and we are trying to save for the new pad) for cardboard. (Yes, I am tight!)

Supermarkets aren't great, because they don't seem to keep much, and they are all very varied sizes.

Try placing an ad in your local free paper - or on adtrader online. I managed to get about 50+ large removal boxes for free on there.

Shame your not closer to Norwich. I run a small removal business and have a heap of boxes you could have for free.... Don't suppose you know anyone up my neck of the woods who could/would run them down to you???!

SUpermarkets are not likely to have anything but fruit boxes. Tend to get crushed pretty quickly but if you ask they may have some.
