Looking for independent garage to do the above for my son`s WRX in central Scotland. Subaru main dealer wanting stupid amount to do this.

Check your local tyre fitters. A lot of them now fit replacement sensors. There's a range of programmable sensors (Schrader EZ sensor and others) that can be taken off the shelf and set up to emulate the specification of the one for your car.
