Should I do it?
Discussion
I'm contemplating buying an S2 111S.
I've never owned anything like this before so what am I going to be letting myself in for?
What are they like to run and own?
I anticipate keeping it for many years and using it mainly for track days. I currently race karts so I'm looking for a similar experience and something to have lots of fun in basically.
I have been quoted around £3K difference between a brand new one and a 3m old demonstrator with 2/3k miles. Which do you think is the better deal?
Does anyone know of any 'special offers' right now and does everyone sell at list or can one get a discount?

Do it! If I were you I'd get the used one and save myself 3K for upgrades or . Take a close look at the car and a long test drive. Be picky and try to negotiate a lower price. Let someone else take the VAT hit and initial depreciation for you.
Don't know of any offers at the moment, keep an eye on Lotus' website: www.lotuscars.co.uk

This comes from a man that knows
The advice about giving it a good look over is excellent. Try putting roof on and getting in etc.
If you're determined in buying brand new haggle for extras for the same price. I did with the second hand M100 and got extras thrown in. I'm sure they do it with new cars as well.
If you don't know a great deal about cars and money is tight I would still buy from a dealer but second hand (1-3 years old) you'll save yourself a lotg but still have the warantee from dealer/Lotus.
Hope that helps
