hotel pricing policies wtf !?

going to Brands Hatch this weekend and wanted to stay in the hotel that is right by the track so i tried to book a room some months ago - fully booked 
Anyway i rang them today to see if they had had any cancellations and they had 2 rooms available
normal price £84 a night, great i think as the lady checks the price i'm in for a bargain.
Lady comes back and tells me £147 per night
?why oh why?? anybody have any idea why this should be, surely they now have 2 spare rooms with less chance of filling them.
I am dumbfounded and haven't booked the room

You may want to try searching the internet, try sites like laterooms.co.uk to see if you can get a better price.
Its amazing how the same room in a hotel can very in price depending where booked, and direct is usually the most expensive option!
It may have been full when your first booked, but someone has now cancelled.

Its called "taking the p!ss".
They do it on a regular basis is there is a large event on near by. Captive market. At least in my experience they do. I have even had to check out a few days early only to be charged the remainder whilst there were a couple after a last minute room and got mine and they copped the rack rate.

I have the answer. Go to Brands Hatch Place. It is miles nicer and smaller. The racing bikers apparently stay there as do the Brands Hatch Instructors. It was just being referbished when I was there just under two years ago and rooms that were done were very nice especially the master rooms. Makes Brands Hatch Hotel look like a holiday in.

If you see a little french man (restarant manager) with grey hair give him a slam he was a right fanny while I worked there. The other staff are great bunch and really friendly.
Ohh yeah its right behind brandshatch. Go as if going to main entrance but turn off before at sign for back pit entrance. 2nd left under a bridge and scond right. There a gym there as well.
Don't order Guniness - long story.

Me thinks not, only executive rooms left and at £190 per night i'll give them a miss, just want to eat, drink and crash out so their rooms with plasma tv and dvd's would be wasted on me but thanks for the suggestion and if you want to spill the beans on your guiness story go for it
The other problem is that the UK has some of the most shameful, overpriced and dire quality hotels in Europe. The value for money is crap and standards of the rooms are horrible for the price you pay. Add to that the lack of customer service and grumpy nature of staff and you have something the British should be ashamed of. I spend ALOT of time in Hotels as a corporate pilot around Europe and the world so have seen alot of stuff and the UK ranks amongst the worst value.
The Rembrandt in Weymouth was so filthy I had to put towels down on the yellow stained toilet carpet floor, and the Soneliegh in Wakefield so grubby and revolting I felt I needed a shower after using the shower, and the Claremont in Blackpool was just shockingly bad with knackered stained worn carpet everywhere, broken striplights and food you wouldn't give to a cockroach, these are all fairly midstream corporate places too

Exactly why the prices confound me
now a suite on the 27th floor at the shangri-la in Kuala Lumpur

On Brandshatch I meet jonathan palmer by accident day before superbike this easter. Didn't realise apart from the helicopter landing as I arrived and then him telling me just to tell people he said it was alright.
