I have ordered two laser jammers (LRC-100 / lIDATEK LE-20) One for the front and one for the rear.

My 01 996 (facelift 3.6) has standard bodywork (ie no aerokit).

Anyone already done this ? Where and how have you fitted the jammers - Any advice gratefully received.

I believe I can fit the front jammer under the front spoiler within a shallow central recess. The back one is proving more difficult (proximity of exhausts etc)

Good choice of jammer. I will get one at some point.

Could the rear one be mounted through the rear window, ie on the 'pacrel shelf' area? I know this isn't near the number plate, but I can't think where else you would put it. In the states they do special number plate surrounds with jammer mountings built in.

I would worry more about front laser speed readings anyway. I won't bother with covering the back when I get mine.

Hidden amongst the grill slats should be fine for the front.

Might be worth a quick call to www.sqplus.com - They fitted jammers to my mates 996 - Haven't seen it so I don't know how it is done.

Hi

I have fitted the jammer to front of my 996 targa. in the slats either side of the front number plate. Nothing at the rear. They are stuck on with numberplate stuff (halfords)

The hardest part was to get the wires from outside the car to inside. (drill, hole, underside of car into boot), ran the wires to the passenger side and along door to hinges and inside, easy then to run to center console in to rear of cubby hole for buzzer under cd holder.

The wires via the door look ok (white wires onto silver car) and I cant see them when I get in Switch stuck on next to centre console.

I could not find any holes to push wires through from the boot to the cabin and thus ran it by the door hinge. I did not want to dill into the boot, but had no option, but found that there are 2 round areas at the base of the boot which were appropriate to go into and then seal with silicoln (sp)

I have transfered the jammer into three cars now and would not leave home without it. It saves me about once or twice a year. although I dont excessivly speed - officer.

There seem to be two mounting places at the rear; bracketed directly off the engine or bracketed off the underside of the rear valance/bumper.

Unfortunately both places get a bit hot. Waiting for manufacturer to give me operating temperature specifications.

The front jammer seems relatively straightforward. Am mounting underneath the front lip, 10 cm back, nestling within a cutout area. Wires feed up through the cutout into the boot area. No holes needed.

Will get the jammer tested on the weekend - will know then if the mounting point works OK

Im no where near staffordshire

any other way apart from Mr Policeman. Im sure its working but just installed in the porker 2 mths ago and would be good to test it.

Update: Front jammer tested and works fine although it's location (underneath front body) is temporary until I can get it mounted just behind the central opening beneath the nr plate.

I mounted the rear one to simulate it being built into the third, hi-level brake light. It jammed just fine until the spoiler came up and obscured it (as expected).

Have spoken to the LRC-100 importer today; they tell me the manufacturer assures them it will operate at up to 70 deg C so should be ok to mount off the rear valance. BUT they also said for me to try and mount it inside one of the rear light units and have it emit through the lens (ie don't need to cut any holes in the lens).

I'll give this a try next.

Oh, interestingly, the guy who tested the 996 told me that it was very very difficult for him to get a speed off the rear of the car (even with my jammer obscured by the spoiler); being very curvy it tends to scatter most of the laser instead of reflect back to the gun.
