My Audi A3 TFSI

I never bonded with my recent Mk5 Golf GTI (and the bills, largely due to the mileage it had) so I took the plunge and bought this after seeing it fairly local and exactly the spec I wanted.

It's a 1.4 TFSI and has the CoD (cylinder on demand, which means it runs on 3 or 2 cylinders when the others aren't needed) which means it's great on fuel. Granted it's not inspiring of characterful but it does the job on my 5 mile commute

Here it is after a 3 hour wash!

White suits the A3. How do you find the performance of the 1.4T, coming from a Mk5 GTI?

Performance is very similar, however having said that I never really used the GTI to its potential and haven't with this either (and unlikely to) - both were used for tootling about in

Always liked the looks of the 8V A3 series.

Out of curiosity what kind of MPG you getting? We had an older 1.4TFSI in the family, the 125hp version and it gave around 33 around town.

Is the performance actually that similar to a Mk5 GTI though? I guess it’s only shy of 30Nm torque wise so the pulling feel may be comparable.

After nearly 5 years I'm still very happy with my 1.4 COD A3 auto.

Great ride quality, very refined, decent performance, reasonably spacious, cheap to run and easy to drive.

It does 140mph, 0-60 in 8 seconds and mpg ranges from 32 to 48 from a tank. The power delivery feels like a diesel but with so much more refinement and another 2000rpm to play with.

I pay around £350 per year for an Audi warranty but after doing 35,000 miles not one thing has gone wrong. I'm on my 3rd windscreen due to bad stone chips.

Only bad points are handling that is safe but uninteresting and road noise on rough surfaces.

Well I am really impressed with this little car - on a recent jaunt up the dual carriageway to my GFs I managed 48mpg. Bloody great!

Pretty sure it’s only 4 or 2 cylinders, never seen 3 mentioned in any of Audi’s technical bulletins.

I've got the facelift version of this with the 1.5 TFSi engine and DSG box. Had it 3 months and already racked up over 6k miles. It's a great car, possibly the best real-world car I've had. Mine is Ibis white too, which I think really suits the car.

Yeah you're probably right - I'm guilty of not knowing much about it
