I’ve been on here for some time now reading peoples threads with great interest.
So I thought I’d do my own Readers Cars thread.
I’ve been heavily into French cars for some time now, building a show Saxo, a 106 Rallye race car and a Clio 197 turbo.
Some of my old cars

My latest purchase is an Inferno Orange Clio 182 Cup.
Bought off eBay at what I believe to be a bargain price, it’s a little high mileage but it’s immaculate which is unusual for me as I usually just buy the cheapest on offer
After only having it a week I already absolutely love it, it drives so much rawer than the 197 turbo I had previously.

Planning to do the odd trackday in it and generally just enjoy it. I have one booked for early Noverber at Snetterton
One of the first things I need to do is to restore the headlights as they are badly clouded
I’m going to have to buy some car washing/detailing products as I currently don’t own any, as I’ve never really cleaned my cars, so any recommendations on that front would be much appreciated

Cheers for looking

Looks well does that. Which is rare for 1*2’s these days!

Just keep it good and use as Renaultsport intended.

Regards your headlights, if you do it yourself with a kit you'll find the finish is okay. I did the same but wanted them to be a little clearer and used PlastX cleaner after the final polish step - was a great improvement.

Lovely car.

I found having the headlights restored was very temporary, they dogged over again within a few months. I fitted new ones in the end, they’re not a huge expense because they’re the same as the low spec models.

If you can find a pair of Xenon headlights they are also plug-n-play

For permanent headlight restoration:

Sand with 1200 grit.

Plastic promoter and then 2k lacquer.

Nice Clio OP - have a 172 cup myself.

Would recommend getting the bus steering wheel changed - makes a massive improvement.

Cheers for all the positive comments!
I personally love the colour I have to admit, I also love the fact it’s a cup (I’ve done some research and they appear to be pretty rare)

Hoping to have a go at the headlights this week and will make sure to lacquer/seal them from uv to stop them fogging again. We’ll have to see how that goes in the long term.

I plan to keep the car as standard as possible so as tempting as fitting Xenons and getting rid of the steering wheel for something nicer is, I’ll probably keep it (and get it retrimmed as it’s melted like they all do)

I like the idea of turini wheels for it but as I said I’d like to keep it standard. But, if I did decide to change the wheels I’d probably go for speedline 2118.

I’ve not got a thread for the 197 turbo (it’s the only one without a thread somewhere lol) but the turbo conversion is quite a common one, so there is loads of info about on them, even a few for sale on eBay.

One of my previous clios was a 172 cup and I did love it, though did miss the a/c on hot days. On my opinion for such nominal gains it doesn’t seem worth removing that’s why I’m so happy with my 182 cup having a/c, but each to their own

I had a few days off work last week so while I was off I decided to have a go at my headlights, so using various grit sand paper, then compound, the polish etc, I managed to vastly improve my headlights.
Not hugely impressed by the outcome, but this sort of thing certainly isn't my area of expertise, its an improvement so, it'll do for now until I have another go or just buy some more headlights

Anyway, with that put on the back burner for now I had a trackday booked at Snetterton on Sunday, so I checked my oil and set off.

Had a group of us which always makes for a good trackday, and the car performed brillaintly, as you'd expect from a RenaultSport.
I was keeping with and passing all sorts which is nice.

Only issue I had was a slight rotating knocking noise from the n/s/f just before lunch.
Presuming it was just pick up on the tyre or something went back out after lunch, but it was still there, better at high speed but still noticable, sp decided to pull into the pits and give it a once over.
Found the n/s/f wheel bolts all loose and had wound out by about a turn!?
They tightened up nicely and all the others were tight, so went back out for the afternoon, and the car performed faultlessly also using very little oil which is nice to see on a high mileage car you've just purchased

As much as I've got no knocking noises or anything I think it'd be worth giving the car a once over just to check it as trackdays are always hard on cars and I've not checked anything on the car since I bought it

Cheers for looking, hopefully more updates soon
