New XKR

Recently acquired 2008 XKR
Purchased with 90,000km on it, pretty clean car. Needs a few things doing (roofliner) and some maintenance possibly. It has always been serviced but I'm thinking about the supercharger pullies/belts and gearbox fluid change. The weather out here (UAE) is pretty extreme and I'm guessing anything rubber will probably need changing at some point.
I got it for a bit of a steal so I'm happy to get things put right !

Should I be getting the pullies/belts replaced anyway given the age of the car ?

Check the belts as part of routine servicing
The pulleys are generally pretty robust, upgrading will release more BHP.

Love these cars, they are ageing to well. Yours is a 5 litre?

I know the 4.2 cars are almost completely free of major faults, don't know about those though.

Really lovely that, I am really tempted by these, but for the same money as an '06 XKR (about £15k) you can get an '09 XFR with the 5.0 and 500+hp, or for less (£9k up) you can get an '08 XF SV8 with the same 4.2.

I'm really torn between them. Ideally I'd have the 5.0 XKR but they are much more money.

I paid about 6k GBP for it.

These cars are going very cheap out here ! (and I can even afford to put fuel in the thing)

The 5ltr lump had (or still has, I've not check to see if things have changed in the past year and a half) plastic fuel injector housings which have/had a tendency to perish.

A really good looking car there and should stay that way in that kind of environment. Black in a more shall we say... moist environment... are a right bugger to keep clean (I had a enough trouble trying to keep my old black 159 clean, after that I'll never have a black car again).

I think the reason for them ageing gracefully is simply down to the nice clean lines, no unnecessary folds or creases in the body work and a nice simple smooth front and rear again with no fussy details. I'm not really a fan of the revised bumper on the face lift cars but they're still not overly
fussy.

I bought an '06 XK with the exact interior/exterior combo I was after and I only intended to keep it for a year and replace with a K series S2 Elise... a year and a half later I've still got it and reluctant to part company with it to be honest, they really do get under the skin.

The design has aged very well there's no way it looks 10 years old , 6k, bargain, you're going to love it

Great car. I ran an XK8 for a while and loved it. I always keep my eye on the prices of early XKs, but they're not yet down to £6k in the UK, and I don't think they'll ever drop to the bargain basement levels that the XK8 fell to.

Definitely tempted to own one of these in the future. Interested to see how you get on with it!

It has aged really well and still looks good despite it being 10 years old.

Its at the garage for a service and general inspection - I'm due to be getting the call today regarding any issues, so fingers crossed !

I'm guessing all things rubber will need replacing and then we'll look at the other potential problems. I am keen to keep it and for the price I got it at I am happy to put a few dirhams into it to keep it well maintained. Most Jag/car forums say that these are bulletproof so I'm hoping for a longterm relationship with the car.

I will update with what the garage found.....

Well got the car back from the garage and I was pleasantly surprised !

Front suspension needed some parts replacing as did the coolant tank but other than that it was given a clean bill of health.
I was pleasantly surprised by the attitude of the garage too as I left them instructions to fix anything that needed doing and they only carried out the work that they felt necessary.
