Hi Guys,
I used to race Gearbox karts etc but find the costs too much these days and a few years ago I started a Racing League on a Thursday Night using the PC Racing Sim Assetto Corsa.
Things have progressed really well and I now have a website which shows how to join etc and all Championships and points etc are on here.
Sim Racing is not for saddo`s with no life, It is a fantastic way to show off your race craft and teaches you car setup etc.
We race with pretty accurate rules etc so why not take a look and see what you think.
It might not be for everyone but I can promise you that it will be much better than you think.
One of the guys who races with us has never raced in real life but entered his first real race and came 2nd on his first race and won the second race!

You say it's not for saddos with no life but I used to race a lot on line trying out for the Play Station series etc. I stopped when I found out the guys with the top times were spending literally every waking hour perfecting setups and doing thousand and thousands of laps on the same circuits.
The difference between sim racing and real racing is it's the guys who have massive amounts of spare time who dominate rather than those with the money to spend. Either way the average joe isn't going to be at the sharp end.

Ours is setup so it doesnt work like that I promise.
The top drivers in the Championship have Ballast plus the physics are so much more accurate than consoles so the good drivers can make the difference by their driving.
The server is up 2 weeks before hand so drivers can see the times they are aiming at and sectors they are losing out on.
We have some great drivers and normally its pretty close no matter how many laps are done.

We run test sessions to get everyone up to speed, we are not interested in people running away with it, close racing is what we are after and we acheive it

You've hit the nail on the head. It's time+dedication based as opposed to money+dedication based to maximise what talent you have, simracing shows this. Thats like a lot of hobbies though to be fair. Pro Simracing's showing this now that full time simracers are chasing around the games + platforms for every promoted/marketed event with a prize fund to earn a living. A lot of them are becoming "jack of all, master of none" because they have to adapt and cant maximise their potential through time, they have to rely on talent.
Like I said guys, it does not matter how much they practice, we run a Ballast and Intake restriction system so that the top guys have a disadvantage and this means that the racing is always pretty close and exciting.

Yes the real racing was brilliant, great fun and an adrenaline rush (short Circuit) The sim Racing honestly when you get into it is still a great rush as you are battling wheel to wheel and some of the stuff like the V8 Supercars Championship, we are doing Bathurst at minute and my god does it take some throttle control and skill.Granted i`m a petrol head , I have a decent amount of drivers cars and classic cars and still like the real thing but honestly you are missing out if you think its much worse an experience.
Once you "get it" you dial into it then it becomes as real as you could imagine, when we are racing I don`t think about it not being real, its funny how the brain works, to us who do it every week its as real as it gets!
Of course this depends on what hardware you have, as with a crap steering wheel etc you don`t get the forces you should get.
There is more feedback from my wheel than a lot of real cars out there I can promise you!
One other point is that when racing for real you don`t drive at 100 percent unless you are rich for fear of damaging your car, in sim racing you can push to the limit thus bringing out the maximum of your skill level. The race craft we use during the races is outstanding and really makes you think and plan that pass.
It also makes you a better driver in real life, if you train your mind to look out for and spot the movement of the car through the wheel and visually, then when you get in a real car and introduce the inertia feel through the body, then you can spot and correct slides etc before they even happen!
I did a race online at Silverstone a few weeks before doing a real Trackday at Silverstone in an Elise 220 Cup and straight away I was taking perfect lines and it was as if I had been there for ages testing and the car sliding about was no issue at all, was easily corrected and brought back into line.

May not be able to get on tonight but can try and aim for a go next thursday. This is a Nascar 55 Championship Race we did a while back
We don`t have lots of videos as we have just really started to record them , but watch this race between me and Neil , wheel to wheel action it was epic.

These cars were hard to control, very sideways and handled like crap but great racing apart from the start when people were on cold tyres and track grip was quite low! there were are few incidents!
Generally its all very clean and if someone punts you then they have to serve a drive through penalty within 2 laps

There is quite a lot of little changes to make it feel like it should so it is something i`d have to explain and do for you buddy.If you text me when your about I can help you no problem at all.
Its the details that make the difference, for those that use Logitech wheels there is a force feedback app that makes it so much better etc.
Then there is turning off help aids, graphics settings etc all that takes me 2 minutes but trying to explain in a message....
We usually get around 10-12 people at moment who are regulars enough to have great races, i`m aiming for around 20
We have about 25 drivers but not everyone races every week.
Our usual format is as follows but we do a full race meeting on a Thursday.
6.30pm Practice is open
8pm Qualifying for the race starts we do either 15 mins, 30 mins or a 1 lap shootout where you are under pressure to set a lap without running off track limits ....great fun!
8.30pm 1st race this can be from 15 mins to 45 mins depending on Series
then we either have another race if 45 mins or 2 more if 20 mins
We have a ten minute break between races depending on how we feel.
We use Discord and headsets to communicate and its all a good laugh again easy to setup I can do it for you!

I'd be up for it although my PC is a bit old/slow. I'd race in bonnet cam mode as the windscreen filter slows down my PC!

To be fair Assetto Corsa is not that bad when it comes to PC Spec needs.
Yes looks interesting although its hard enough keeping track of all points as it is!
For 2019 we are introducing Team Mates which when you pair up with someone your team points count towards the Constructors Championship.
There will be 2 drivers in each Team so we match the slower drivers with the quickest ones for this.
