Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my '08 C6 convertible (owned from new) with a new Mustang convertible, which means selling the Vette. If I go down the part-ex route it's easy...but of course I'll get much less for the car than if I sell privately. I just have visions of selling a Vette privately being a world of pain with time-wasters and tyre-kickers and of course no certainty over how long it'll take to actually sell it.

Any pearls of wisdom from people who've sold (or tried to sell!) a similar age/value Vette privately would be gratefully received! Is it as painful as I'm envisaging?

You could try on the CCCUK website, but you NEED to be a member to advertise anything for sale.
Im sure ive seen recently some one looking for a C6.

Dont know where in the country you are but if you are off the beaten track its hard work.

I,m in cumbria and have had three modern US cars for sale over the years.

All I thought were priced reasonably

05 mustang- no interest till dealer came from France for it

08 mustang - no interest -px for challenger to a private seller down south- who sold it a couple of months later plus £2k.

14 Challenger - only up a couple of weeks but no interest till dealer phoned, come next day and took it- he sold it as soon as it was back for sale for prob 6k more. Left adverts up till they expired and still had no interest.

Good luck!

When I tried to sell my C5 privately many years ago, I had very little interest from the UK. Maybe one or two phone calls, and a local guy who came round and initially seemed very promising, but eventually turned out to be just a tyre-kicker who just fancied a test drive in a Corvette.

The only positive leads I had were from a dealer in France who I (stupidly) turned down, and then finally a dealer in Sweden who ultimately ended up buying the car. It was a very strange deal since he bought the car solely on the strength of some photos and a phone conversation. He transferred the funds immediately as promised, but didn't collect the car until weeks later when a colleague of his turned up outside my office with a low loader! Two days later the car was in Gothenburg and I got an e-mail from him saying how delighted he was with it. Very trusting on his part, though clearly it turned out well for both of us.

I seem to recall I advertised the car on both Autotrader and Pistonheads, but it was the PH advert that got the best responses.

Thanks all for your replies, which have pretty much confirmed what I was afraid of!

Had to laugh when one Ford dealer said they wouldn't take it as a part-ex as it's "too specialised", although another has said they'd take it in part-ex but at much less than I could theoretically get for it privately if I could find a buyer...

Try Adrian Dromey.
He is a dealer based in Lincs.
He bought my C6 from me and is a good guy to deal with as long as you are realistic on the price.

Thanks - I've spoken to Adrian since my original post and he does indeed seem like a good guy.
