Hi all, usual story, Mrs has badly marked 3 of the 4 alloy wheels (but continues to blame me!).

They look really bad as it’s not just the outer rim (ie where the alloy meets the tyre rubber) that’s damaged but also big parts of the wheel are covered in dirty black scuffs.

What would you guys recommend? How much would I be looking at for a decent refurb and also is it better to just replace all 4 wheels?

Thanks

A proper refurb will be cheaper than a new set and they will look like new.

Pics?

A proper refurb is a good idea and as a bonus usually includes some driving lessons so they come back less likely to do it again. /misogynist

Do you remember good old steel wheels?

Happy days.

Lol, maybe I will threaten an upgrade for next time as a good deterrent

Oh I do, heck even plastic hub caps were good - £20 for a new set of 4. Simples!

Used to love the Mk2 Golf GTi on steels. E30’s looked good on them too.

?

How high are the kerbs that she is causing that much damage to them? It's not as if the tyres are particularly low profile. eek

EDIT: I had to tell my sister that she could purposefully drive up onto a kerb if she thought there was a danger of scraping her way down it. Seemed like a genuine revelation to her. frown

So how much have people spent getting these kind of problems fixed? What’s a decent price to pay?

I think he’s annoyed that you upload a photo that’s not the ‘right way up’. Of course the relevance of this when the photograph is of a rotarionally symmetric object is debateable.

I'm lucky enough to have a very good wheel refurb place locally. They're £60 a wheel and they come back like new.

It can be done cheaper, but you pays your money and.....

Well.... they are diamond cut so could be quite expensive to refurbish. I would just get them powdercoated, should be able 250-350 quid for all 4

Yup, budget 400 to diamond cut all 4; probably 300 to powder coat.

Our Disco Sport is on 18s which have a certain charm to them and are no doubt more comfy than the bigger options. But I can't help but think it would look better on a bigger wheel.

But, when Mrs PB bumps a kerb all we're left with is a scuffed tyre. Bonus!

Having said that, god knows what Bristol Airport Silver parking managed to bump the osr off back in June. I was relieved when it turned out to be some sort of rubbery stuff and it all came off.
