What does £300 worth of Golf look like?
Discussion
Well, this.

It's too tedious to upload all the images via my phone but I will when I get on the laptop.
1.6 petrol auto with 180k on it.
It drives exactly as a 1.6 petrol auto with 180k shouldn't.
It's smooth, pokey and quiet. Drives spot on and feels very tight.
It was sold for scrap and I purchased it with a misfire from the scrap guys for £300. 2 coils and 4 spark plugs later it's running fine albeit a tad under powered.
£26 later TPS supplied me with a fuel pump tappet and we have full power.
The headlights need polishing but it's currently out as a courtesy car.

Blimey - my daughter's structurally damaged write-off Golf is currently at £625 on Copart.Josho said:

It's sounds better than the 2001 C Class my indie lent me this morning. I didn't know cars had so many warning lights!Well I forgot I posted this.
So the EML was on. I had lent it out the day after purchasing and sorting the coils to a customer. So on the Sunday after it was back I had a good look.
I CBA to get VAG-COM out so pulled out the cheap and cheerful Snap-On:

The car was pretty underpowered at high RPM. I suspected the FSI fuel pump tappet.
I was correct:

£27 quid for a bit of metal later:

Finding any tools I could indoors and wondering why I wasn't at my workshop:

I removed this:

The camshaft had wear:

I'm not putting a new one in. I will let the tappet wear the cam back flat and replace it again if needed. Which roughly translates to: "if the fault code doesn't come back it's staying like it".
Anyway, about 3 minutes later we were back in and done.

The codes were cleared and the car was 10x more powerful. The gearbox also felt, well it didn't feel anything. The slight thud between 3rd and 4th has vanished.
The rear wiper arm fell off on it's maiden voyage:

Also no amount of reprogramming would get the unlock feature of either key to work. BUT pulling the key apart, cleaning and putting back together fixed both. RESULT.

Overall I cannot complain. EVERYTHING works bar the EGR valve and aircon. The aircon needs gas (it's holding fortunately!) and I have purchased a used EGR valve (call me tight).
I will be hopefully performing a few SMART repairs over the weekend which gives me some god practice from the van rather than my spray booth.
