Having been on the receiving end of several hurricanes, I appreciate your concern.
Latest models show a landfall somewhere between Wilmington NC and Cape Hattaras. Unless something changes dramatically, I think the steering forces will take it north.
You should be OK in Charleston SC - but nothing's a given with these storms. Hunker down.

Saw a live feed on YouTube - a US weather man getting very excited!
Pretty much no mention of it in the press so far.

Been following Flo via NHC since last week - looks like she'll be a bit of a monster. Hopefully people in storm-surge affected areas will evacuate properly.
The biggest impact will most likely be the rainfall if she stalls off the coast as is predicted at the moment.

Still scope for a recurve before landfall. although that's looking less and less likely I believe.

Charleston : Schools are closed tomorrow until the end of the week here now. Looks like my office will close at noon tomorrow. Evacuation has been ordered and I-26 will have a lane reversal to get folks out as of noon tomorrow. Local petrol stations are chock-a-block at the mo’. As Matt says, I’m hunkering down. Been here 14 years and had a couple of close calls but this does seem big and the rain could be heavy. I have a friend in Wilmington, NC and they plan on staying put!

I've got a bunch of colleagues in Charlotte NC, they are expecting a lot of rain and wind, but don't seem overly concerned as the worst of the hurricane's effects will be felt at the coast.Shops are selling lots of basic supplies (fresh water etc) though.

I have friends in Wilmington, but not on the beaches, who will be staying. Their biggest worry is flooding, trees down so no power and the the usual delays until things open up again, like gas stations, supermarkets and electricity. Is still very warm there and no a/c or power makes life somewhat tricky. Is draining his pool and locking things down. I was evacuated last year during Irma from the beaches of Clearwater FL and have dodged a couple in NC during the late 90's. And I keep looking for a condo on the Turks and Caicos!!!!

Weather Network are forecasting Cat 3 on landfall , with up to 760mm of rain !!

I’m in Raleigh on business and lots of panic buying going on. Fuel and water is running short. Looks like it will hit here bad, so heading out to NYC by road tomorrow afternoon.

Hi Matt, thanks for asking. Nothing here in Charleston yet. Overcast and a breeze is picking up. Should be expecting rain later this evening and into tomorrow. Florence has just been downgraded to a tropical storm, so that's a step in the right direction.
