Q5 V6 TDI, fuel economy?
Discussion
We would need a diesel, as it would be used for 15-20k per annum, I also would be using the car, and the rattley 4 pot doesn’t do anything for me to be honest. It’s the fuel cost that would be the main factor to be honest.
My F31 330d has returned great fuel economy over the past 10k, 42mpg!.

I haven’t driven the car but ‘5 to 10mpg’ more than the ‘trip computer’ of a different version getting 33 looks a little optimistic to me.
Honest John says about 33MPG if I’ve got the car right.

The best one on Spritmonitor gets 34 and the worst 26. These are true brim to brims.

Good luck either way.

If it's any help my 3.0 tdi (also an A4 Avant) produces 35-36 mpg when I'm generally pottering about or on a cross-country run. Things improve to 38-39 mpg on a good motorway run but drop below 35 when around town. These numbers aren't consumption read-outs from the trip computer but proper brimmed tank to brimmed tank calculations.
We've got a 2014 3.0TDi and I'm afraid I'm only going off the trip computer here - so your guess is as good as mine as to how accurate that is, but on a run I tend to get +/- 40mpg and around town around 33mpg.
It replaced a 2008 A6 3.0TDi and does seem better on fuel - particularly in town. Maybe some of that is down to the stop/start tech and maybe some is down to it being a wallowly car that I perhaps don't boot everywhere quite so much.
My only real complaint over the A6 when it comes to fuel is that the A6 had and 80 litre fuel tank and this has a 60 litre (might be 65). Definitely means more stopping off on longer journeys.
