The REAL Election Battle begins..

....no not the one about who won which seats, but battle of the "Labour Win Election" threads here on PH.
Which one will get the majority? Probably not this one, but exit polls, and I must stress they are only exit polls and not necessarily an indication of the true result, indicate that its going to be an interesting day, but no-one is popping champagne corks just yet
anyhew....best possible result IMHO. The country elected the only shower capable of running the country, but with a much reduced majority which should lead to rather more accountability. Now we just need George Bush to keep his c
k out of the custard for the next 4 years so we can concentrate on running our own country rather than invading other peoples......

Since a Labour victory was unfortunately inevitable I am slightly dissapointed that the majority wasn't lower.
Given everything they do is generally bad for me - it would have been helpful if it had been generally impossible for them to do anything at all.
Yes - weak government incapable of actually
any more things up was the best I was really hoping for.
I *almost* got it.
I can take some heart in the fact that it will be more difficult to get the *most* stupid things through in *this* term.
But Greedy Gordo is going to get yet another chance to reap the rewards of other people's Labour.
I'm don't despair. I'm taking action.

Whether you thing they went too far, or not, the Conservatives tamed the Unions and offloaded the burden the Nationalised Industries lumbered the nation with, and put the economy on such a sound footing that they kick started the longest period of growth since whenever it is Not Labour claims when boasting about "their" record breaking period of growth.
But, despite handing control of interest rates to the Bank of England, and continuing to follow Tory economic policy for a couple of years after gaining power, they have borrowed so much, and stealth taxed so much, and strangled the economy with so much red tape, and the transport system with so many anti-car measures, and recruited so many non-workers into public "service", and let down so many schoolchildren and students, that they dared not wait for a full term before calling an election, because even they could see it was all about to go t!ts-up any day now.
I'm a floating voter, who thought that the Conservatives were the best bet at the moment. But I'm as glad as they are that they didn't win. Because a total collapse of the country, with Labour having absolutely no chance of blaming any other previous administration bar themselves for it, will give certain sections of the electorate the wake up call they've been needing for decades.
