3 Terms of utter stupidity how can they top that

Sadly it looks as though silliness is set to return for the next 4 years. All be it with a reduced majority and all the problems that brings. The good news is that the traffic cops are gonna decline and the bad news is speed cameras are gonna increase. We will still spend 11 pounds on tax in every 13 pounds spent on fuel and we will still commit half of our young people to more than 20k s worth of debt to ensure the wearers of sandals and cardigans have a nice life as academicians and of course vote labour. Could the last one out please turn out the light. 
The next four years will be make or break. Blair's retirement will be hastened by the loss of so many Labour seats in this election. We'll get Brown sooner rather than later and he will make a left turn. The economy is showing signs of slowing down and this will debase Brown's prudence theory. I do think this is the beginning of the end for New Labour, and there is no doubt that the Conservatives are showing signs of revival. The Lib Dems will never do better than this in an election - in four years' time Iraq will be forgotten and the protest vote will be magnified in terms of economic performance.
This was a fascintating evening and I think what has happened is a good thing.
Any bleating by the Tories of "oh no we lost, four more years etc" is incredibly naive as it was plainly obviously that they stood not a hope in hell in winning. It is clear that after tonight plenty of us still do not believe the Tories can run the country. But they won seats so hopefully they will not be ll doom and gloom and try and be a bit more constructive next time roiund to win more of us over - this will involve a change of leader I think, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for them now.
Labour are still in power but got a kicking and know that next time around there is a real risk they will be out on their ear. They have four years to deliver otherwise they will spend years in the wilderness - hopefully this will focus their minds and lead to results, otherwise they are history.

And of course, more than 30% of the electorate did not vote Labour or Tory which speaks volumes of the state of those two parties at the moment.

Labour will run out of luck, the economy, based as it is on massive borrowing, will falter and possible collapse pulling down the curtain from around Brown leaving him naked and exposed as he dips into Public funds and pensions yet again to prop up his ailing beast.
The Tories may well be in Opposition again, but hopefully they will become an effective opposition and use the next 4/5 years to develop their policies that have been fairly well received in order to revert the country back to a Conservative viewpoint.
I guess we'll all have to tighten our belts a wee bit until then and hope like mad that Tony doesn't get that effing European Constitution!

i can see the labour party pulling itself to pieces as they fight over a new leader. Not a bad result considering the number of years the tories have been messing about, appointing lame duck leaders.Its history repeating itself.
As with the tories, in too long, full of their own importance, not listening to anyone, not caring about abyone, sleaze, lies, scandal, unpopular policies etc....then they got the biggest kicking, and they deserved it too.

My comments to the BBC "have your say" site, doubt that it'll be posted, as they appear to me sieving all in favour of bLIAR and his cronies, only a few lightly critical comments getting through!!
Absolutely disgusted that these false lying thieves can be re-elected with fewer votes than the opposition and still talk of victory. These thieves are destroying Britain and it's values and allying themselves to central european socialists to ensure that their weak policies are anchored by an unelected socialist majority in the EU!
My faith in Britain is getting so low I am thinking of revoking my British nationality. bLIAR and his champagne socialists are the worst thing that ever happened to GB! I have seen GB move from a respected world leading position with high moral values to a third rate socialist envy state at which the rest of the world laughs! British values and credibility are at zero and getting worse. God help Britain, because bLIAR and his cronies won't!!!!

A quick point nonners - I don't intend to be in more than approx 13k of debt after 3 years of uni at Exeter, which is a generally very expensive place to live accomodation wise etc. I've worked part time a lot to save up to ensure i don't have to resort to more than the student loan + overdraft (free loans, essentially). Also it was my choice to come here, and it will benefit me in the end so i don't see the problem with me paying for it. Not only that but i know the market value of my degree course is worth about 13k a year as that's approx what the foreign students pay, so the government are still forking out 30k+ to pay for my education.
Exeter now with increased top up fees will introduce a bursery for people who are in my position financially (poor!), and fees will be included with the loan so students can make it through their degree and pay it back afterwords. If you get a decent degree from a decent uni you should easily be able to pay back the loan and still live a far more wealthy life than without (generally speaking). If you do drama at bournmouth or something then maybe you've got more to think about, but this isn't a bad thing as there's too many students on mickey mouse degrees in my opinion anyway.

Oh dear Rob. Thats very nice of you to be cool about paying for your education. My point was not about that issue though. Students getting good degrees with prospects of good jobs etc is great. Good luck to all of them. There are however plenty of poor kids who attend so called universities who through no fault of their own recieve a crap education which does nothing to enhance their job prospects. These students are there simply because Blair wants half the population to get a degree. All that does is devalue the degree badge and grant middle class status to university lecturers many of whom have no knowlege of anything worth knowing and are frankly ripping off the students who attend to listen to them. The graduates of these Posh and Becks studies type degrees will end up with a mc job and probably earn less than the threshold at which you have to repay your loan. That leaves you with a greater burden than is needed. I am in favour of closing some universities and reducing the number of places in order to make education free and available to those who can meet the standards. Starting life with huge unsecured debts to the state is an utterly ludicrous imposition on the gifted and tallented.

Spot on, exactly what my wife and I were thinking.
This may truly be seen later to have been a good election to lose. The excrement is bound to hit the fan vis a vis the economy sooner or later and that is when those who voted labour (who probably need the bad state of the economy to be staring them in the face and affecting them "now") will then realise their mistake.
