I like my chromed tyre valve caps - they match my chromed valves (and are standard on my car).

So, it seems, does someone else locally. I've just been out to find three more missing (having recently replaced the two nicked last week), together with tell-tale finger marks in the brake dust on the wheels. Grrrrrr

Can anyone else help me out with why this is happening: is there some new craze sweeping the nation that I'm unaware of? Is it de-rigour to have these on ones bicycle, or is it a Pax Mower must-have?

Ideas on how to protect them (locking dust caps anyone?) or catch the buggers greatly received. At the moment I can see no point in replacing them.

Oh, and if anyone sees bikes with shiny valve caps or a wikked maxxed hatch with only three fitted - send 'em my way: I have some retribution waiting.

Sorry, rant over now.

Nurse, nurse!

I gave up trying to keep the originals on the car & switched to black plastic. Funnily enough they haven't gone missing since...

However, I did see some (can't remember the web site, unforunately) that had little alan-key grub screws in the side to prevent them being unscrewed. Thought they were a recipe for snapped valves, though!

Stopped at my daughters for half an hour last weekend in a rental BM.... came back out and all four caps were gone. Not even nice ones on a standard 318i. Stoopid - and certainly not little darlings!

Yep, I've had the crappy black plastic ones nicked off one side of my motor. You can get locking stainless caps - they lock by virtue of a screw on the side. Dunno how eefective they are and wether you can get ones that don't glow blue in the dark though!

Oh, BTW I have heard that the latest trend is to nick bonnet vents and spoilers of scoobys.

I recommend you use a good skin contact nerve agent, just remember to wear gloves when checking tyre pressures

Wire them to the battery. 60 amps should sort it.

Even super glue will work...sure they'll get it off, but you'll know you've glued them.

Only problem is that they may get sufficiently p'd off that they choose to do something else to your pride and joy.

Personally, I'd keep a watch from the window until they came back, then kill them. But that's me, in my usual softly, softly approach to scrotes.

I had my "prancing donkey" caps nicked off my 308 .... couldn't be bothered forking out 40 quid to get them replaced, so I just put chrome ones back on. They're probably on some kids bike somewhere now .....

Baseball bat up the side of the head, I say ....

Heard the little darlings were putting them on bicycles as well. My brother had two sets nicked before switching to black plastic.

Hey! This happened to me only a few months ago!!! Why would somebody want to nick them, I thought???

Funnily enough having bought some shiny ones at Back Home, I had only thought (the day before they disappeared) that I really didn't like them much after all!

Still felt like thumping some(one)thing though!

seems some people will nick just about anything, my mate has just had 2 hubcaps nicked off his 1988 1.4 Pug 205 (of course they nicked the ones on the side by the wall so he didn't notice for 2 days.... grrrrrr!)

Could always try putting the rumour round the neighbourhood that the car belongs to an unhinged crack dealer, should keep the buggers at a safe distance, though you might get some funny looks

I bought Halfords own brand stainless steel valve caps (about £3.00 for 4) and use those... and so far (touch wood) haven't had any go missing.

I know, I'm sorry MikeyT.

I had a couple of choices at Folembray to avoid this:
- leave the car in the pits and pose all day
- try and complete the whole day without braking for any of the corners

Neither seemed in the spirit of things, so I did this (warning: 3Mbytes!), although others might argue it was closer to the other options.
