yes,thats my car,i was helping my bro with his new R1 semi factory superbike,i built this up,just got the red mirrors to go on,its a tribute to oliver gavin who im waiting to meet up with to sign it

I'm a bit of a fan of race replicas having turned a C5 Z06 Into a tribute to Dale Earnhardt snr many years ago.

yesterday at the importers in surrey for a service,i raced the uk based C5-R in 2005,its the last year of the front engined C7-R mid engine C8 out next year

nigel,im coming out to spring mountain corvette test track next year and possibly tie in with sebring,tried to get ken out but he wimped out,cant wait for petit le man to see the n03 win the IMSA title again against those ford prototypes,shame the C8-R looks like a pick up truck

They are all beautiful even though my old C6 😨...... and my C5 before it 😨😨...... sad or what.

Everybody thinks of new Corvettes but really we all think of the original Vettes way back in the 50’s and the latest the C5’s after that it all changes.

But in reality I would rather have my immaculate old C5 than my present C6 😨or what ?

These are truly great cars - but I'd feel like a right plonker driving around with it all decked-out like that. What's the motivation? I don't mean to be offensive - and each to their own, it just seems a bit silly to me.

matt,its a tribute to the IMSA/LE MANS race cars and drivers,i dont think you understand the enormity of what they have achieved,after all the slating from motoring journos that american cars cant go around corners bla bla, BMW,PORSCHE,FERRARI,FORD have all brought out new model cars in the last few years Fords is a prototype not even built by ford in the US and the corvette with its 1950,s derived engine not even DOHC has won the last 3 years IMSA drivers title and 8 LE MANS victories in the last 20 years despite the organisers continuously putting balance of performance handicaps on it, its also the end of an era as next years corvette has bowed to pressure and gone mid engine

I do 'understand' the enormity of what Pratt & Miller, GM and their suppliers have achieved, Chris.
I have been going to Le Mans since 1981 and Rolex at Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans since 2001. I am also a core member of Turn 10 Sebring and we host the Corvette team at our corner pretty much every year. Danny Binks gave us one of his pit suits, which is now worn by our Team Impala chief mechanic, Donny Drinks.
I've also owned a couple of Corvettes - and even done some consumer market research for the Corvette brand. That bit I get.

What I struggle to understand is why anyone would choose to drive their Corvette all pimped-out to resemble a factory C7R. That's all - I don't really get that bit - and would feel incredibly self-conscious riding around looking like I was a 'pretend' Jan Magnussen, or Oliver Gavin.

i am toying with going to watch an IMSA/WEC race next year,would you recommend sebring or an undulating circuit like road atlanta? i was going to go to spring mountain as well to the corvette test track , i guess i havnt got the " oliver gavin" pretend out of my system yet as im still testing LMP prototypes and monster GT cars ,i raced a C5R in 2005 in a GP support race

Chris, I am not questioning your driving abilities - I'm sure you are very accomplished. My bewilderment is around why anyone would take a quite sensational road car and make it look a bit silly when driven on the road.
I'm also a bit lost on the idea of 'tribute'. I don't mean to be offensive, I just don't understand the concept and was hoping someone might explain the rationale. I'm still confused, but maybe it's just me.

Re the 2019 WEC/IMSA double-header, I'm sure you realize that is a one venue (Sebring) event - for which SIR is currently being prepared (WEC pit complex, new drive-over bridge etc). It is likely to be a quite spectacular show and we would extend a warm welcome at Turn 10 if you plan to attend.
