C6 RS6 V10 Fuel Consumption
Discussion
Potentially looking at a C6 RS6 with the 5.0 V10, been doing some casual research over the last few months and the only varying aspect seems to be fuel economy. I currently use a V8 Vantage as a daily and that does anywhere between 20 and 23MPG across a range of environments. I would not doing mega mileage in it anyway as it would just be a personal car but what realistically can be expected out of these cars and I appreciate it’s never going to be a Prius!
Mine had the MTM 706 BHP tune and the wife used it mostly for the ~5 mile school run plus a few longer trips up to 20-30 miles.
She averaged 18 Mpg and drove conservatively.
I could get 6 Mpg on a 10 mile B-road jolly. Worth every drop of the dinosaur juice.
Had it for most of the oil price crash at 100p/l, and sold it as it climbed up past 120p/l. As we pick up the pace towards 200p/l it might get a little unbearable...

Interesting! Thanks for the info! I would say the amount of short journeys i do is balanced out by the long motorway journeys I do, I would probably find myself using the car more often just down to it’s practicality. I had my Aston remapped as it had some niggles with a Co2 sensor and whilst it was being diagnosed we stuck it on the rollers, I found that gave me more power and helped MPG under normal driving, obviously drive it hard and it plummets, did you find that with your RS6?
Thanks

I had the S6 V10 for a bit and the fuel economy was comical. Sounds in line with what people are saying above. Motorway cruising 22-23. Driving to work, 15-16 if I drove respectfully. < 10 if I ragged it. Surprising that the figures are similar when the RS has 100bhp more.
Brakes are another large expense. These are very big heavy cars and my S6 used to eat brakes, pads especially but the disks don't last long. circa £500 notes for pads and disks

Don't think I have ever seen anything starting with a 2 TBH, and TBF you don't buy one of these with MPG foremost in your mind surely, bit like buying a boat and worrying about it getting wet IMHO....it is however a hugely practical fun filled family car. Front discs and pads were around £1000 last year, just picked up rear Brembo pads for £35 this weekend to be fitted this week. If you find a competent mechanic these can be enjoyed reasonably cheaply. Pic shows what you might expect
Just buy it and enjoy

Just buy it and enjoyIn 18 months of ownership, I averaged just under 15 MPG. A mixture of driving, very little in stop start traffic, but whatever I gained when it edged over 20 on longer trips, I lost whenever I felt the temptation to boot it.
As has been said above - absolutely epic cars...something that big definitely shouldn't move so fast.

I’ve had mine a year mostly as a daily
Done 14k miles
22-23 motorway
Struggle to get to 20 any other time. And you can get 6mpg if you can hold for that long!
I just had discs and pads all round £1200 mates rates.
It’s one of those things you need at some point in life, hopefully mines in the middle!

love that phrase, hope you don't mind if I steal it ocassionally
I think it's probably fair to mention that a few mpg here or there isn't going to make much difference to the ownership cost. The consumables and bits that break will dwarf the difference in petrol cost if you're not doing mega miles.
Don't forget the C6s range from 6 to 10 years old now, IIRC. So, these aren't spring chickens and in my experience of Audi S cars at least, a lot of their sensors etc do have a habit of giving up after as little as 5 years.

Yep this is a lot of what did for mine. The petrol costs were huge but it was the little faults that added up. I had an MOT that cost £1,000. Needed some new suspension arms, brakes and a new seatbelt clip. One of the throttle bodies went. Garage wanted £1K for a new one. I was lucky and found a scrapy breaking an S6 and got one from that for £50 and coded it myself with VCDS.Don't forget the C6s range from 6 to 10 years old now, IIRC. The engine is so tightly packed that labour can be a lot to replace stuff. Seem to recall that its engine out to have the O2 sensors replaced.

Now consider that annual road tax alone on an RS6 is more than that and it puts it in perspective.
It's the maintenance costs (and depreciation on newer cars) that are the big costs in high end sports cars.

I chickened out of the prospect of C6 RS ownership on that basis too - the bills for pipes, seals etc that are as near as damn it engine out jobs scared the crap out of me, as most cars seem to suffer with age, even if they've not done mega miles. That and the difficulty finding an Avant with 3G MMI, unless you find a Plus, seemed to be pretty limiting on choice as I couldn't live with a saloon which are all 3G MMI. Bought a bigger house instead, and waiting for C7 prices to drop some more before scratching that itch.....
