Best to spend the time away productively and put two fingers up at the FIA by doing lots and lots and lots of testing, to hell with the 30 day limit. After all if Ferrari had kept to the 30 day testing agreement limit they would have already done their allocation.

Anyway some other teams have been secretly testing at the airfield at Elvington York, naughty Red Bull, McLaren and Jordan.

Ok, if BAR were stretching the rules they've been found out and punished. But I very much doubt there is any team in F1 who isn't doing similar things.

yup

lets hope they return with more speed, more power and destroy the other teams for perhaps the rest of the season.

would be nice change (no red car on top) and also would allow honda and team, to silence any critics and demostrate cheating or not look what we can do.

hopefully the time will be used 100% on testing and not on recrimination within team so all energy is put to good use for the return

On the BBC the FIA are quoted as saying

"We asked them to pump all the fuel out of the car but they left in 15ltrs and told us it was empty"

Naughty naughty if thats true.....

Unfortunately that's probably exactly what the FIA want, anything to divide the teams that are currently aligned with GPWC.

I think the 'testing' at Elvington was just a shakedown prior to this weekends gp, although I used to be able to hear the Jaguars conducting a lot of straight line testing there when I lived in York.

How come they were able to negotiate scrutineering etc without any of this coming to light?

Personally, I cant help but feel disappointed that Jenson is not going to be able to compete, though if this is true and the team have tried to bend the rules then something had to be done.

I agree with comments above and hope that BAR are 'competative' enough to get out there and make the most of this time to get their act together.

Its also an interesting concept to me that the FIA seems hell bent on witch hunting and bringing down the name of the sport which is represents...again, just IMO.

J.B. must be fuming mad now, tried to get out last year and now stuck with a team that can't even cheat without being caught.

Maybe that's the real reason he wanted to leave BAR and join Williams, he knew they were pushing the boundaries. It makes sense.

What a crock of shit F1 is these days.
Oh dear, red cars are behind in points, manufacturers are ganging up, so let's have a bit of divide and conquer.

Must admit though, it was a nice try BAR.
Something ferrari 'esc about it, " Oh empty THAT fuel tank" LOL.

Mojo.

Jenson Button is an exceptionally skillful driver, but he's no rocket scientist.
His managers pushed him into going to Williams, and he nodded obligingly and followed their direction.

That's a fascinating read - I wonder why there was a further examination of the tank after the original fuel was drained, unless the ..ahem...modification was either suspected or info had leaked to or been gained by others!

I suspect size 11 boots will have been applied to various backsides - the financial implications in terms of sponsorship penalties etc etc could be huge. It will be interesting to see how JB handles this.

...Geof Willis is going mad. We haven't done anything wrong its all political. Ferrari have got a slightly illegal fuel system, thats why they could run so long in the mid-stint at Imola. Ours is similar to their, but legal. As Ferrari has signed up to FIA F1 for 2007 and beyond (Honda signed GPA) they need to show Ferrari, without penalising them, that their system is wrong. Therefore they wond do Ferrari, so they're doing us.

I pointed out the "using fuel as ballast" issue and she hasnt replied yet!!!

I think the issue here rests on the fact they allegedly tried to wilfully decieve the stewards, by saying that the tank was empty when it wasn't. Similar to the air intake Toyota ran on their WRC Celica's in 1995 (mentioned on another thread about this).

That happenned a few years back - one car had been checked over (I forget the team), the steward was walking away and someone from another team had a whisper in their ear. The steward then went back to the car and went straight to the illegal part (I think it was a wing too low or something similar).

Well they are not fighting the ban, they reckon it will cost them in excess of 10 million as they miss promotional opportunities in the next two races and they are now worried about retaining Button....nasty business.

All of this from the BBC site

Personally, I think it's a fair cop. I just wish I could believe that if it was Ferrari the outcome would have been the same.

Mind you, I doubt Ferrari would be quite so dumb as I perceive BAR to have been.

They could fight back at the ban and sue the FIA for losses.
