Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.
Who can't have heard of 'Sweet Home Alabama' which he co-wrote?
Ed has died at just 68.He'd had health problems for some time.
He joined Skynyrd in 1972 and left just before the plane crash tragedy, then re-joined in 1987 and stayed for 11 years.

And to add some useless info:
Not so well-known is he was previously guitarist with psychedelic/hippie US band Strawberry Alarm Clock (before he joined Skynyrd in 1972).
Strawberry Alarm Clock had a huge hit in the US with the single Incense and Peppermints - it spent 16 weeks on Billboard reaching No.1 in Nov 1967 and got the group a gold disc for sales of a million copies.
It was played to death over here in the UK too, but never featured in our charts.
I must have been one of few who bought it! Can fetch top money on ebay.
The lyrics would have the offended queuing by the mile today.
