TROUBLE RECORDING TV CHANNELS

A colleague at work has recently installed a Telewest box, which then runs to his video, which is, in turn, connected to a standard CRT TV. He can play video tapes perfectly well, he can view all the channels on the TV - but he can't seem to record programmes from the TV onto video...

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Sounds like his video isn't tuned into the actual Telewest box...

and the VCR needs to be switched to the correct channel for the TW box once its tuned in.

Downside of this arrangement is that you can't watch something else on the TV whilst recording from cable, unless you have another source of signals for the telly (e.g. "normal" aerial)

Agree with all the above, but if I might add:

Theres two ways of connecting all the kit, either via RF (aerial) leads, or via Scart leads.

If its RF, then you have to tune the Telewest box into a channel on the video (say 0) and then select that channel when you wish to record from the telewest box.

If its Scart, then you need to select the Scart input on the VCR to record Telewest, usually something like AV or EXT (on my Sony VCR its E1, for example).
