Halfway down France I notice a hydraulic fluid leak from the PAS (the tank level is down and there is fluid around the steering on the passenger side). I press on, but the hydraulic fluid makes contact with hot transmission and starts to smell. I inspect and there is smoke. Cue roadside assist.

Roadside assistance recommended garage recommend £2k repair. Back in Blighty I have someone who will do it for £500. Assist may not repatriat vehicle (and trailer) due to value of Discovery in relation to cost of recovery.

If I take it easy and top up hydraulic fluid regularly, will I make it home without being a danger to others? I am assuming that taking the peage home will be less stressful on steering.

ie. Should I lose all fluid / power assistance, will I immediately crash and die? Or do I just lose power steering and have to grow Popeye's forearms.

Just keep topping up. Steering does get juddery if tank gets too low, but totally driveable. Take it easy and get it fixed in blighty.
