s1 111s upgrades
Discussion
My 111s already has LSS, lotus sports cat and janspeed exhaust.
It sounds lovely, a real screamer at the top end and the cat has done wonders at filling the sound in up to about 4k
On a recent run, I was behind an s2 that sounded really aggressive, even on idle - the reason was apparently a ptp170 induction kit. Can I get one of these on mine and will it sound the same? Is it worth doing or are there other things I should think about first? Main reason for doing it would be to fill the noise in from idle all the way through the rev range - the one I was behind sounded really race-car like. I would also expect it to make a difference to performance, as my plan now is to keep doing bits and pieces to the car to make it quicker, rather than trading it in for something quicker.
cheers

Sorry, forgot that bit. PTP170 is a conversion from PTP. I can't recall the details but it involves head and exhaust work, I think. Take a look on www.ptp-ltd.co.uk

i stuck a eliseparts zorst, hurricane induction kit and 160TB on my 111S and it sounded absolutely amazing... went like stink too!
Did exactly the same with my 111s and confirm they do sound rather good
I also went for the cat bypass pipe, just to complete the mix. I only picked it up last weekend but it goes better and the pops and burbles it makes are superb.zebedee said:
what is a 160tb?!
Larger diameter (52mm instead of 48mm IIRC) and ally. Comes off the MGF 160 I think.
Deffo fit a Hurricane or other induction kit - will improve sound and throttle response and may give you a pony or two to boot.
Had one fitted to my (std) S1 and it's simply hilarious.

PTP170 is not an induction kit, it's a whole engine upgrade (well, the block's unchanged). Comprises head, ECU, cams + exhaust & induction if you've not already done them. Trouble is, for 111s owners it means scrapping the variable valve timing bits.
Best bet for you is to fit a hurricane induction kit to replace the standard air filter etc. as it gives a ram-air effect, less resistance to flow and a nice deep sound. Get an exhaust manifold and sports cat if you can afford them. Exhaust system you've already got. Then take it to Dave Andrews (www.dvapower.com/) for his K06a kit:
K06a - 170BHP kit for VVC engines, gives 170BHP+
Gives a very useful power and torque increase across the range and especially between 4500 and 7200, comprising a fully ported cylinder head, retiming of the VVC inlet camshafts, improved exhaust camshaft and 52mm TF160 throttle body together with all gaskets, oil seals and head bolts necessary to fit. This kit retains the original VVC mechanisms and standard ECU. The head is provided on an exchange basis. Fitting includes work to your exhaust manifold and inlet plenum. Recent examples have given 175BHP and 179BHP/140ft/lb respectively.
Above kit £995, Fitting £525

P.S. Was that your car at Horizon yesterday?

that sounds like the sort of thing to go for - need to get the wedding and honeymoon paid off first though!
I hope it wasn't my car at Horizon yesterday, though that is where I get mine serviced!
3 points - 1) I already have the Lotus Sports Cat - sounds lovely
2) Why should I get an exhaust manifold first if part of the tuning includes work to the manifold?
3) Would dva fit the hurricane at the same time (or is it not worth it - should I just do it myself (bearing in mind I have never done any work on the elise before and don't have a garage
Oh, and where are dva and how long would they need the car for?

I had a Larrini zorst, sports cat and ITG fitted to my S2 111S about a couple of months ago.
Agressive sound? Think Mike Tyson on bad acid
being stung by a wasp in the eye ball.
Actually gives a highly tuned sound below 4k, above that it just sounds like Appolo 14. Needless to say I am very very satisfied with the results
. Go for it
