Crit ' Air - Holiday with an old car

Having had my first european driving holiday in spring going to Germany I now desire to travel further - southern France and northern Spain is something I would like to plan for late September (can't beat leaving it to the last minute).
We do have a newer Volvo V70 but that's wifes the daily car. The holiday car is a 1994 Mercedes so therefore pre-dates the validity for a Crit ' Air band.

At the moment I'm not sure exactly where I would like to go - Bordeaux is a possibility - equally Provence. Getting out in the car is a big issue - a couple of hundred miles a day is possible to get out and see the wider area.

Given its late September will the lack of a Crit ' Air sticker be an issue to enjoyment. Been trying to look at the rules which seem rather complicated. Some areas only cover town centres but not their ring roads, so no problem. But others seem a lot wider and seem to risk the opportunity for the French to get me bent over with my trousers pulled down - and that's before I even consider speeding issues (Thanks germany for the ticket for driving at 40kph)

If going to Bordeaux then park on the outskirts in the park'n'ride and get the tram into the centre, it's by far the best way to travel around Bordeaux.

We had thought about that from looking at Toulouse - looked like a good walk.

What I should have added last night was that we will have two medium/large dogs (retriever size) with us. Are they OK on public transport ?

And looking further - the route down from Calais - I think takes in the A10 which is in a zone. Its the getting there and back situation, as well town centre's.

I've seen dogs on the tram (and a cat on a lead too!!).

The A10 runs south from the A6 near Paris Orly airport which is not in the Paris Crit air zone. You can go around Paris on the Perephique without entering the zone as the limit is on the inside edge of the ring road, it's only if you leave it to go towards the centre of Oaris that you enter it.
