Nice Hotel in New York?

Felt sure there was a few threads with this subject but can't see any in the last six months so here goes:-

I am stopping over with the wife and daughter for three nights on the way to Atlanta, anyone recommend a nice, centrally located hotel with a pool. Not too flash but a cut above the Comfort Inn etc.

Would rather trust your experiences than the travel agents spiel!

It hasn't got a pool but its the nads of a location (and a hotel i'm told). My mate lives on Ludlow Street and its a nice part of the East Side personally. If you do decide to stay, let me know, i've booked a weekend there in October. Moby's tea shop TeaNy is accross the road as well.

Its the best way to see New York i reckon.

Spent 4 days in the Plaza on 59th & 5th recently. Right on the South East corner of Central Park. Great views. Excellent room and excellent service. Highly recommended. Unfortunately no pool though.

Not sure you'll find a pool easily.

Soho Grand is in a great neighbourhood and great at the weekend. Full price is v expensive but there are often deals.

W on Lexington near the Chrysler Bldg is a wonderful place to stay.

Better value but still very funky is the Paramount near Times Sq. Very small rooms though.


If you want a pool, you're better off staying out of town - Long Island sort of way.

I have just come from NYC, stayed in the Waldorf Astoria on Park Street. Expensive but a lovely hotel, no pool though. I think you'll struggle to find a hotel in the city with one. Previously stayed in the Pennsylvania hotel in midtown opposite Madison square gardens (IMO a bit of a dive but excellent location again no pool).

Try the Hotel Gansevoort in Soho - certainly a cut above the rest and the rooftop pool's amazing. Great area to visit with lots to see/do. Website is worth a visit too www.hotelgansevoort.com.

Not sure what you're budgeting, so apologies if it's OTT.

If i remember right, the Sheraton Manhatten (on 7th?)has a pool. I stayed at the Sheraton New York which is across the road and the brochure said we could use the pool over there, it looked nice. We were on a stag do so swimming wasn't really on the agenda.
