Hey all, ive been a member for some time, but not posted in ages, so you may not recognise me!

Just a little advice - when i got my car, i filled out a form for the previous owner to send to DVLA. he was moving to Spain a few days later so i dont know if he ever sent it off. i never got round to sending off my half .

Now, my tax runs out shortly and id expect to receive a SORN reminder about getting new tax, but i havent so maybe he didnt send off his half (with my New Owners address on it) and so maybe theyre waiting for my half? Id have thought if they had half of the slip with my details on, theyd have sent me my new logbook etc too?

basically i dont actually know what date i bought my car on, so if they have his slip on record with a date on, and then get my one with a different date, im gonna get done for fraud!

What do you guys think? When i fill out a form to get my tax and register the car, shall i just put the current days date on it?

If it is still taxed you don't have to worry too much. There is a form (V62??) which allows you to tell them you are the new owner whilst applying for the new tax (V10?). For the purchase date just tell them roughly, I do i.e. Sep 02...

Just ask at the PO and that will be fine I think..

cheers mate, yeah i shall indeed fill out that form - thing is, getting the date wrong could be beneficial as i went past a box on a tripod a little while ago which was hidden (may just have been a tax checker but may have been something sinister!) so what could i expect to happen if i get it wrong?

If the other bloke had sent off his half with my details, would they have sent me my V5, or would they wait for my half? [:P]
