F40 Michelotto GT - what's it worth?
Discussion
Not much is known about the value of this F40 and for a while we thought it was in-line with the others until we checked the chassis number and discovered it it in fact a Michelotto GT which was campaigned in the early 90's for the Ferrari Italia cup series. This has been confirmed via follow-up enquiries.
It's probably going to be sold soon to be replaced by a 430 [I know, don't ask!] but how is it valued?
- is it worth more because of it's history and eligability for Historic Racing?
- is it worth the same as another F40 in great condition?
- is it worth less because it has a racing history?
Any comments gratefully received.
Thanks,
Dave.

1,100 kgs, 760 bhp, 342 km/h top speed
The only numbers that matter.

Just had a look at the pics, lovely thing, but something on F40s has always puzzled me.
Why / how 3 exhausts?
I undertsnad that there will be a simple answer and I will feel stupid!
If I remeber well, there is one tail pipe per turbo (i.e. 2, via silencers) and a single tail pipe that "collects" exhaust gaz from both waste gates (without silencer)
Does this make sense?

Yeah I think that makes sense.
Don't know what that would do for you exactly though.
Dumping boost back into the 'real' exhaust effectively produces more back pressure and causes turbine stall in extreme cases. Lotus Esprit's did the same (on the early turbo's anyway).
I always thought the F40 exhaust diameter was quite small for it's power output, but it seems to work fine and sound great, so who cares!
I can give you an indication of what an F40 LM would be based on a car bought in Switzerland in 1998, that was 619,500CHF or £274,000. This car was an IMSA specced LM, chassis No.6 produced by Michelotto in 1991.
Best to get your car's racing pedigree sorted and catalogued then get a few valuations from Ferrari dealers and specialists, grab a copy of Motoring News for contact numbers of the racing specialists like Duncan Hamilton's.
PS Was it campaigned in the Italian GT series in 1993/1994 by the Jolly Club?

The aforementioned Mr Hamilton in fact has an F40 LM for sale, at £345,000. However this sounds different to the car in question here, i.e. it is an official racing Ferrari limited edition car, whereas Michelotto is an independent tuning company, I believe. The prices therefore are not really comparable.
