Caravan club do a scheme through the RAC called Arrival that covers pretty much anything. Not sure if they do for short term though.

What about Britannia Rescue and if you were a civil servant at any time you can join the CSMA and get a discount, Dont know if they do the weight. The AA and RAC used to have limits on lengths of caravans (dont now) when Britannia didnt.

Ours is done with my insurance, but the breakdown booklet states its provided by DAS, not sure if they do direct cover though or just via insurance companies? I have never had to use their services, and hope to never have to, so cannot comment on how good they are

My policy states that "The Vehice" is defined as......
The vehicle declared to us. Cover extends to include any caravan or trailer attached to the vehicle at the time of the breakdown.
The vehicle, means the UK registered vehicle as shown on your schedule and that complies with the following specifications:
1. a vehicle that is registered with the DVLA* (or equivalent) as either a motorhome, motor caravan, a campervan or van with side windows

  • DVLA size limits are 12 metres long and 2.55 metres wide
A lot of people recommend ADAC for continental cover.

The Nationwide Flex plus current account is £13 a month and among other things covers motorhome up to 7.5t including European cover.
We had a month in France (luckily we didn't need to use it) and recently had a new £200+ mobile phone screen replaced for just £25 excess.
I took it out just for our France trip with the intention of jacking it in when we returned, but seeing as I have had my years subscription paid for in mobile phone screen, I will keep it for now.

For future reference in case anyone looks up this thread...

Comfort Insurance provide MH European cover over 3500kg and over 8.7m long - which we are - as part of their policy.

Also I think I read the ADAC now DO NOT cover anyone without a German postal/home address.

Call the AA. They do not advertise but should cover.

We have cover through the insurance who use the AA and the van is 3.85t without issue. (We needed it in France and it was superb.)

Was your van originally 3.5t and then re-plated to 3.85t?
