I'm currently trying to buy a new S3 and I'm really struggling to get a car without a 5 month wait.

There seem to be very few knocking around that are already built and I'm being told there is some sort of emissions testing that will hold up any new builds.

Perhaps this is normal? I've only bought one 'new' car before - there wasn't a 5 month wait for that. Can any dealers out there shed some light on stock / demand for the S3 at the moment?

Emissions regulations are really tightening up I believe. A lot of performance cars (911's for example) have had production halted due to it.

There’s a backlog on testing for the new emissions , any cars in existence not tested at aug 31 has to be sold or scrapped , so their will be existing stocks pre registered so on some models there could be some deals to be had . Many manufacturers have stopped production as they knew cars could not be tested in time , as cars get tested production will restart , it may mean a long delivery for certain cars due to demand

Ah that makes sense. I thought the dealer was just making it up.

The A3 was facelifted only last year, so I'm curious why you say this?

Because each model year they make minor changes despite facelifts etc - for example my GTD for MY11 (from mid 2010 onwards) came with LED rear lights. Not a facelift just a small spec change
