What do you make of this? Looks like a pile of horseshit to me, but still could cause problems for any of us with decatted cars...

Points that spring to mind:

1. My car's exhaust is a good 12" higher off the ground than your average cars. What height does the laser read at?
2. Surely the results are affected by atmospheric conditions? Wind/Rain etc?
3. Catalysts are useless when they are cold, so someone who lives near a testing site could be done for illegal emissions even if they'd pass an MOT.
4. I've seen some cars that make so much smoke the number plate reader wouldn't be able to get a reading.
5. Why not just test and repair busses and taxis? They produce at least a quarter of the pollution in Cambridge
6. Fcuking greenies

Bonce, Bonce.

Hang on a minute. This isn't necessarily a bad thing at all.

How many sh**boxes have you seen on the road being driven around totally inconsiderately and even dangerously. Now how many of these sh**boxes were spewing foul and noxious fumes into the atmosphere.

Strong correlation isn't there? (Anecdotal evidence here, of course. Nothing's proven.)

So. If devices like this get stinking oil-burners off the road so I can take the roof off without expiring from the stench emanating from their exhausts I view this as a GOOD THING. And a device like this WILL catch HGVs and Buses - it would be fine thing to FORCE public transport to clean up its act.

I doubt very much that it'd cause a problem to decatted sports cars..and even if it did its not *such* a bad thing to need to put back...

OK, fair comment and I agree with you so I'll forget about points 5 & 6 on my list... but I still think points 1-4 make it hard to implement fairly and effectively.

No Bonce, #6 was the most important point
