Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a 996, they appear to be good value and affordable but I have a question or two.

1 - would a high mileage greater than 100k be of concern? Is there a limit that you would go to e.g 110k,120k,130k etc? Bearing in mind the mileage annualised over the age makes it quite low e.g. 6k/pa
2 - if the car is high mileage is there anything specific I should look out for?
3 - and lastly, in general, what should I look out for to determine a good\duff car?

Thanks,
Tony

Scroll down to the `what`s an early......` thread - or open it here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It is a long thread - put the kettle on!

Do you want a 3.4 or a 3.6
Coupe / Cab / Targa
Man or Tip transmission? (Manual = rather more desirable IMO)

All the normal old car buying rules apply -- condition paramount / History desirable, and not just stamps in the book but supporting invoices. These are truly GREAT cars, but the were £60K odd when new - and can have costly problems at this age.

Things need refreshing from time to time even if they do not break !

Do your research and take your time finding a good one. Bought wisely they are incredible value and a wonderful drive.

Good luck !

Thanks for the link, will have a read. Not too fussed on 3.4 or 3.6. Initial thoughts were coupe, but as this will be mainly weekend\holiday car then maybe a cabriolet would be a fun option.

Looks like I've a bit of reading to do :-)
