NBN - worth it?

NBN is currently being installed in my street. Currently have ADSL with iinet.

Should i be considering moving to NBN?

For reference im gtting a 5mps speed (according to speednet) currently on ADSL and although low is about sufficient as well as reliable.

I would love greater speed but am keen to maintain reliability.

My parents have NBN, it seems pretty reliable and fast. So no real issues to report.

Good to hear - where are they located and who are they with? I’m not sure who to go with as I’m with iinet and they’re ok for my adsl but don’t seem to rate well for NBN

Around here, they say that the old copper is turned off and NBN is the way you have to go.

I’m getting it on Wednesday. Only Fibre to the Node though.

The copper network gets turned off eventually (September for us) so you’ll have no choice at some point.

Speed is currently at 7 MB on ADSL - will report back with the NBN number on Wednesday evening (assuming it works!).

I went with Telstra because I’m with them just now. Priced up what I wanted on their website and it came to $118 per month, then rang them and it was only $99 per month. So don’t do anything online - ring whoever you are with to get a deal.

Only got mine switched on a month ago after being on the early version of ADSL for ages. ie slow!
I was grandfathered on an ADSL plan which was 20GB for $50, now it is $50 for 100GB at a much faster speed, included a router or whatever it is called now. I did up the speed for an extra $5 so it is now $55 for 100GB but faster still. It is Fibre to the node so copper the last part of the way. The speed before NBN was average, I couldn't watch stuff on the TV.
Last week I used ABC Iview to watch a whole series on the TV and that was very good. I am with one of iinet's relatives, Internode. TPG own a lot of them now. It also has to replace your normal telephone line but that was all included.

NBN has been great for me.

House is newish in Adelaide and we have fibre to the house which helps.

I'm paying for the 100mb Optus package and always get 97mb which is bloody good and has been very reliable.

They turned our copper off in Feb. so we had to swap. A PITA as far as our house alarm making phone calls, as it’s now digital and phones are now VOIP.

Been on NBN for about a year now. 50mb/sec during the day, and I think it doubles at night.

Unlimited downloads, and FoxTel chucked in from Telstra.

Came home early and hooked it all up.

Just done a speed test on the PC on WIFI in the study:
Before = 7.2 download, 0.8 upload
Now: 45.5 download, 16.3 upload

So a massive difference.

I'm off to hook up the Telstra TV now, only problem is I've run out of HDMI ports on the TV

My Telstra TV spent most of its time being thrown across the room! Bloody useless thing, slow and kept hanging. Gave up in the end and bought an Apple TV 4K version.

Regards to NBN, definitely worth switching over, when we lived in Tascott we had fibre to the house and got 100/40mbps, now we’re in Woy Woy Bay we have fibre to the hub and get 35/13mbps, still fast enough to stream 4K over Netflix etc.
