....well get along to Fintray Hillclimb on May 7 and 8!

Fintray, near Aberdeen, is the venue for two seperate rounds of the Guyson Scottish Hillclimb Championship and the Plenderleath Runcie Highland Speed Championship.

A packed entry is expected with everything from Minis through Fiestas to M3s, Alfas, Evos, Subarus and Cosworths in the road saloon classes.

Caterhams, Westfields (incl a certain PHer I think!), Daxs, Duttons and Elises will feature in the road sports.

Jedis, OMS' and Pilbeams will feature in the racing car class and a few rather nice historics including, I expect, a rather nice (and fantastic sounding) BDA Lotus 7 will be on on track.

If you want to get in free AND get the best view, turn up early and help to marshal - you'll get a free lunch too. Event starts at 10.30am and finishes around 4.30 both days.

Parking is free and further details can be found at www.gac.org.uk.

Well I hope it'll be on the track (as opposed to off it)

Foz - If problems are logistical rather than technical then George Robinson may be able to "logbook" your car at the event (by prior arrangement - you can e-mail me for GR contact details)

I would echo T'thunder's comments re marshals - this looks to be one of the busiest Fintray's for many a year so the more help the better

Contact the event scrutineer, he will be able to logbook it on the day. All you need is the vehicle, a photo showing the front 3/4 view with no distracting background and £22.

Might well turn up to marshal on the sunday, depends if i can spare a full day or not.

we're usually quite efficient and have been known to be finished completely by 4.30


we've got over 100 cars each day so promises to be a good event.

Issues with the cage though, it was built to 2002 FIA regs and has never been through the MSA homologation process, anyone whao has seen it can tell it's a proper designed job (uses 600nm T45 throughout but most of the tubing is 38mm as opposed to MSA required 45)

only the main roll over hoop is 45mm..

This might be an issue on the day and dont want to take the risk

Anyone got any ideas, unless I get george to come have a look this week?!?

Errrr, there will actually be another PHer there, driving a Sylva,

Who built the cage? Did they have a cage certificated? If not it is possible to have the cage certified. Contact John Symes at Moor Sports House and speak to him about it.

You may only need a main hoop.. from Section Q

1.5.1. Production, Touring and
Sports Cars.
a) Production cars, Touring Cars, Sports cars
up to 2,000cc – Basic rollbar/rollcage
complying with Q1 or Q2.

If the honda is less than 2000cc, you should be OK as long as the main hoop complies.

Another contact worth chatting to is Rob McKinna who is the eligibility scrutineer for the speed championship. His number is in the Blue Book.

Well done to all who took part at Fintray.

I marshalled both days (Ruin saturday all day and Sunday am, Hairpin Sunday pm) and, despite the tricky conditions, we didn't have too many 'offs'.

The worst accident (Sunday AM, single seater) the driver is, I gather, fine. He was a bit shaken and a bit sore which is why we got the doctor to help him out of the car, but all is well.

Hopefully, we'll get some proper sun in August and none of this hailstones lark!

Didn't get enough time to come and marshal unfortunately (why is fintray always on when i've got uni exams?). I turned up and took a load of photos instead. I was the guy right down the bottom by ruin, if you noticed me. I was there from around half 11 until the single seater deicded not to bother with the rest of the hill. Looked like (even more) rain, and fancied at least a fighting chance of getting out of the mudbath.. erm, i mean carpark!

If anyone wants any photos, drop me an email with car number/distinguishing features and i'll see if i've got one of you.

...and thanks also to George R. and the other officials and organisers who coped well with 100+ compeditors [some of whom left bits of their car on the track! (oops..sorry)]
