F11 2016 Roof Bar Fitting help
Discussion
Hi Chaps - anyone got instructions for the OEM roof bars or know the measurements of where they sit on the rails? There are no markers on the car and BMW told me today you need to get your tape measure out to know where to put them else you get excessive wind noise (yep!) and it won't take the weight, but they didn't have any in stock to check the instructions... thanks
I have the OEM bars on my F11 (2011), which I got with the car as part of the deal. In fact the sales man helped me fit them, and there was never any talk of tape measures, because the position would surely depend on your roof box/ bike rack, etc.
Mine have been on and off the car many times over the past 3 years or so, and although they end up in roughly the same place each time as I have the HUGE OEM roof box, they just get placed is roughly the same place. As long as I can get the tailgate up without hitting the back of the box I'm happy.
I Never experienced any wind noise from them, even at speed
The bars are specific front/ rear though as I think the front bar has a little lip/ diffuser on the underside.

Thanks for that. That's how I got mine, dealer took them off the showroom car to throw in the deal. For interest got hold of a set of instructions today, states the distance between roof bar centres should be 710mm, and there's a specific spot on the rail the rear cross bar needs to be! Seems with a new rails they give you stickers to put inside the door gutter to help you second time!
Who knew...
My Thule bars came with instructions that said they should be 70cm apart. I generally put the rear one centered over the quaterlight-to-window joint in the rear door, and the front one 70cm forward of that! There are no markings on my F11 roof rails either.
Not my car, but you get the idea:

The front one looks too far forward on the one in the pic, looks to be tilting forward, although that may just be the picture. My rear one if virtualky the same as that one, I've got the instructions somewhere, I'll have a look. My bars came with stickers to put in the door shuts for future reference.

Any chance of sharing the instructions? I have a set of used F11 bars that I'm due to use in July to put three bikes on the roof for a holiday to Ireland and didn't get any instructions when I bought them. For interest got hold of a set of instructions today, states the distance between roof bar centres should be 710mm, and there's a specific spot on the rail the rear cross bar needs to be! Sure. Away now (roof bars attached!) but will post them when I'm home Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
