How fast is your internet connection

I'll have 8mb in about 10 days.

2mb is plenty quick enough for most stuff though.

BT are offering an upgrade to a 2 meg broadband connection for less money than the old tarrifs Offer started yesterday.

Anyone lucky enough to have more than a 2 meg connection? I hear 20 meg connections exist, in japan...

Why do you need such a fat pipe?

Not saying you dont, just curious, cant imagine you have much data interchange needs.

Well, I don't.

But i had a 750, which i upgraded to 1.5. that was great.

Then they upgraded it to 3 for free...

And i've been renting this bloody cable modem for 5 years now

If you're local exchange has been unbundled I would seriously look at UKonline.nets pricing running over BT wire.

Anything that keeps the monthlys down improves cashflow and all that.

For a minute when you mentioned the cash I thought you were paying big money...

I think 8mb is the quickest consumer product, dont know what the upload is, its uncapped and it comes in at £39 a month.

Thats a good deal! I remember not too many years ago, I knew someone who was considering a fixed leased line. About the speed of isdn 64k or there abouts, but it was always on like broadband. The price... £13'000 a year iirc

Leased lines are still better for large data chunks though as its your own circuit.

But price/performance you cant beat a DSL variant.

I pay about £16.50 a month with plus.net for a 1mb connection. I won't go higher until a I get a new faster 'puter...! Plus.net are very good, tho.

If I'm not mistaken, most, if not all, DLS modems/routers have a downstream max of 8mb, and upstream of 4mb...

Fingers crossed the telco's and ISP's will be breaching that barrier soon... ( I don't mind buying new hardware to go faster!)

Make your mind up...T1 is ~1.5Mb/s and isn't generally used in reference to LAN speeds, which these days is usually 100Mb/s.
