Seceuroglide garage door repair
Discussion
Hi guys,I`m looking for an expert on Seceuroglide roller garage doors in the Berkshire area, preferably a small business not a UK wide chain.
The reason I`m asking is I`ve been messed about by "This company" for the last month and its time to give up on them.First they say its the motor, two more visits still not fitted for various reasons, forth visit the guys say its not the motor its the control unit. aaaarrrrr **!!! He fiddled about inside the control unit for about 15 minutes and the door is working, for now???.
By the way this door is just over 9 years old and has worked well all of that time. I think this fault started when it froze up during the winter,
I press the remote, the door rises a bit and stops, do it again and it stops again. The only way to get fully open is to help it up by hand.
The control panel says Led system fault, red light flash then two yellow flashes. A motor stall has been detected.
Recommendations please, you know the sort of guy I`m after,an old fashioned tradesman.

If it is anything like my parents Henderson/Sommer unit then it will be the relay causing the problem in the control unit or the safety being over sensitive and sensing something that is not there (however it should in that event go back up). Rarely do motors actually have issues
As crass as it sounds as well your door is described as "end of life". Our door just installed 5 days ago (Garadoor which if you stripped away the branding is actually Hormann) only has a life of approx 10 years, possibly 12 with minimal opening and closing.

Scarily similar to my experience... we have 2 doors of a similar age to yours (slightly newer) and both started exhibiting some odd symptoms.
They've had minimal opening and closing in this time, as we don't put the cars in the garage.
One thing they checked was the strips along the bottom. Both of mine have a few 'mouse nibbles' which can cause water to get into the contacts in there, apparently.
They've also turned down the sensitivity on the motors. I *think* when the motor struggles, it will cut out rather than carry on going - to prolong the life of the motor. From what I was told, they've upped the setting on this so that the motor is more likely to carry on regardless (at the expense of longevity I expect) but it got them working for now.
One door was flatly refusing to open properly. It was apparently missing one of its magnets which rendered it inoperable.
Sorry I can't recommend a company as mine are in Hertfordshire.
I've been quoted about £460 to replace a motor, and they say 1 sounds like it is trying too hard (and may give out soon) but the other sounds OK.

Our garador door will be about 20 years old. The door is the same, but it's had a couple of operators in that time. The last one I changed still worked, but it didn't have a sensor in it that stops the door if it touches anything it shouldn't. I changed it for a newer type after putting a fAs crass as it sounds as well your door is described as "end of life". I`ve still got the original paperwork from the company that supplied and fitted it all,and its guaranteed for ten years!! Naturally that company is long gone,no longer in business. What I want is someone who has had years of experience with this product, will give an accurate diagnosis and get it sorted, end of.
I live in a small close and all four properties have seceuroglide garage doors, my neighbor has exactly the same fault with his door as mine.
If you know the fitting date and that it was registered reach out to SWS who I believe would be the manufacturer???
But usually there is lots of "holes" in the warranty.
My recent one states proudly 10 year warranty problem is that only applies to the frame and door (which are all aluminium), not the bits that actually make it operate as a garage door which only gets 5.
Either way in regards to the point of safety cut offs mine is going to be looked at on Wednesday again as I think the safety mechanism is set too high and not sensitive enough.
The other problem is that in the past decade (and when I chatting with the guys that were fitting mine), many of the companies have been bought out and are mere brands or have been removed entirely, so spare parts for some are getting harder to find.

I had exactly the same problem with my Seceuroglide door - motor stall detect warning, motor struggling to raise shutter. Thought about what was in the motor, watched some YouTube videos and bought a replacement capacitor. Fitted it this morning and it now works!
Motor is a Somfy RDO-50-CSI-25-17 with a 6uF capacitor. Bought replacement from CPC, catalogue number CA08414. It has wire ends as opposed to the original which had tags but it was easy enough to wire in.
Measured the old one and it was showing 3uF.
Warning here - please only undertake such a repair if you know what you are doing - mains electricity can be lethal.

I had the same problem with my seceuroglide garage door , I was quoted a minimum of £400 to fit a new motor as this is what a local company
said I would need. Luckily after reading this post I ordered a 6uf capacitor on eBay for £4.48 including post.
The hardest part was lifting the roller out of the brackets, we then had to drill 4 pop rivets in order to get the motor out.
it was then a case of replacing the capacitor and refitting.
It took two of us about 4Hrs in total, and so far the door is working perfectly.

I had the same with my garage door. Over the last year it has gotten worse and worse. At first, you had to help it up the first couple of feet, and up till a week ago, you had to help it the entire way. The solution was as mentioned earlier in the post, replace the capacitor. A friend and I did it last week, took a couple of hours, but the door is now working perfectly.
My door motor was a Somfy RDO-50-CSI-25-17, and the 6uF capacitor had failed (well, it read 2.6uF when I tested it). I got the capacitor off eBay for £4.85. The capacitor was physically larger and had large spade terminals on it, the original one had small spade terminals. I cut the old crimps off from the original wiring and put the correct size crimps to connect to the new capacitor and put it back together.
One thing to watch out for, as the new capacitor was physically bigger than the old one, it was slightly to long to fit, I just cut off the threaded piece on the end of the capacitor.
Very happy it didn't cost me hundreds

I had the same issue (worn out motor) and purchased 2 replacement motors https://motorsandremotes.co.uk/motors/somfy/rdo-lt...
The motor now works ok but I have to hold the button for it to go up/down all the way as it cuts out / stops otherwise.. could that be the capacitor needs replacing as detailed earlier? if so any links where to buy and how to fit?

My door wouldn't work even with the button held down, it went out on motor trip. I had to help it up by lifting the door. My door had no trouble going down.
Maybe you have a different control box than me, but it sounds like the limits might need resetting.
I just checked the link you posted, they are slightly different sized motors to the one that I had. Mine are the same as previously mentioned (25-17) so you may have to take it apart to find out the capacitor size.

As my old thread has been resurrected I thought I would give an update on my securaglide door fault.
Check my original post, the door was in big trouble, I was told by the first "expert" it needed a new motor ,then a new control panel by the second "expert", then a guy who DID know all about these doors spent a few minutes inside the control panel. That was a year ago, the door has been working perfectly ever since.
Apparently all it needed was some sort of electronic system reset, that guy`s 15 minute job saved me £500.

since I changed the motors mine now goes up fine / un assisted but will not come down unless I hold the button down... any ideas?
Any spurious beeps that didn't used to be there before? On my door/controller keeping the button pressed down overrides the obstruction detection strip. Usually required when the batteries in the sender have gone flat.AW10 said:
