Hi folks

My wife is due to change her car soon, so is test driving a 2018 Mustang 5.0 tomorrow. Has anyone driven the latest model back to back with the 2016 / 2017 model and is there a significant difference? If she can’t get delivery in time, she’s considering a one year old used version, but we have a slight concern that there may be a large gap in quality between the two

I looked at the 17 vs 18 choice a couple of months ago. The 18 is 8%more power, 66% more gears for the auto, LED headlights and 13% uglier. and pricier!

I went for the MY17.

I found it felt exactly the same interior wise, except the digital display. No other major differences immediately stood out to me if im honest

2018 definitely is noisier, and felt slightly faster.. although I'm not sure if its due to the noise

Didn't like the exterior personally

I preferred the previous version.. they really don't feel that different

I currently have a 2016 GT, had a look at a 2018 a couple of days ago. Active exhaust looked & sounded good but you can get the17 to sound good with a catback exhaust. As said previously very little difference between the interiors apart from the binnacle.
Although having now seen a few 18's in the metal now, I like the look of them.

I'm in the hunt myself....given the finance deal available on the MY17 and lower list, the subtle differences on the MY18 doesn't do enough to convince me it's worth it. So going for the MY17 Shadow Edition once I find the deal I want.

Makes sense, I got 0% finance and a 7% discount, so the my17 was in budget. The my18 was not worth the extra cost in my view.

Are they still selling the my’17’s new?

0% and a decent lump off sounds like quite an interesting incentive to go for if the changes aren’t that significant

So, Mrs K is now the proud owner of a 2017 Mustang 5.0GT auto in Magnetic Grey with the Custom Pack. We got, I think, a reasonable deal on the finance and she’s grinning like a Cheshire Cat!!!

Same here, ordered a Grabber Blue Shadow Edition Auto with a similar discount on the 0% with no deposit, banked the money I got from selling my Alpina and will pay the monthly payment from that, too good a deal to consider the MY18.

That's exactly what I did, sold 2 cars to fund the deposit and payments, it's a bad time to be selling a 16-17 plate GT , with the discount and 0% finance a new one is coming out at a very similar price to a used one on finance

I considered going for either a year-old GT, or at most a "new" previous shape GT simply because of the savings. However I went for a 2018 shape simply because this isn't a car I bought with my head, but with my heart. I know full well if I got the previous shape, every time I saw the new shape, I'd die a little bit inside. Especially as it's not an insignificant outlay.

But, if you aren't too keen on the new shape (I know I am) and really don't care about the difference between the auto gearboxes (assuming that's your thing) and the BHP difference doesn't matter, go for it as the savings are pretty good.

What kind of discount can you get on the old model? I've had a look and the dealers want to push 0% PCP rather than naming a price.

It sounds as if there is plenty of old stock needing to be moved.

We got the car + autobox + custom pack for £40,090 and then negotiated the finance from there

I got pre-reg (6 months old - 15 miles on clock) manual 5.0 convertible with custom packs and the fancy (read pain in the … to touch up) optional white paint.

Paid £36k.

I’ve no idea to be honest. However, it’s averaging 18mpg at the moment so we’re not overly concerned about an extra £300 / yr on tax!!!

Probably. The tax is based on list price, regardless of what you paid.,
