Just read the online test between the new Vantage against the 991.2GTS 4WD and they timed the Porsche to 60mph in an unbelievable 3.0 secs dead versus 4.2 for the Aston..I've said before that the GTS is way quicker than Porsches official figures..

I’ve never understood why Porsche undersell their numbers but he results are always impressive.

It’s time to ditch 0-60 as a measure though. Good tyres, modern auto boxes, launch control and turbo torque are distorting the numbers more than ever. There are hot hatches with numbers like supercars despite nothing like the power to weight ratio.

Add AWD to the mix of 0-60 time enhancers

Why bother comparing a Porsche with a crap British car?

Same with JLR. It'll just go wrong, very often.

Bah... humbug...

I would love the new Vantage to be a great car ...

It would take nothing away from Porsche and give us all more options ... given that the day we can't buy the new Porsche that we really really want ... may be tomorrow.

I fully agree with you..The difference between Aston and Porsche is that Aston tend to launch cars before the final chassis and build polish is finalised..Porsche on the other hand have more budget, hence why much more is spent on final testing before the official launch.
The new Vantage's reviews mirror that of the DB11 and its not until the car is a couple of years old that you see the final chassis and build quality shine...! An oversight and a pity..

PistonHeads did a review comparison of a C2 GTS manual vs. a vantage today too, it’s a quirky read, but very glad with my decision to go for the Porsche, was considering the vantage as the next car but not so sure now, it’s a lot more money for not a lot more car.

Had my old style Vantage for 8.5yrs and 55k miles. Nothing major went wrong with it at all. Great car.

The early years of that model (05/06) were blighted with niggles. But after that they were pretty much rock solid.

Paintwork is another issue...

Read latest EVO magazine's test between the new Vantage against Macca 540, Audi R8 and Porsche 991.s GTS 4wd..The Porsche again won quite easily...! A common theme is how heavy the new Vantage is in magazines tests, EVO weighed it at a staggering 1739Kg..It also falls apart when driven close to its limits, in complete contrast to the 991 which gets better the harder you push it..
Sounds to me the new Vantage has been launched without being fully developed, and as a consequence more style than substance..

Didn't easily beat the Mac though did it- won a narrow victory based on the Macs engine lacking a bit of character is what I read.

A narrow win over the Mc was how I read it, but costs also come into these things surely?

On that basis the 911 looks a complete bargain.

It does but the Mac in question was a 540C -list price 126k, the GTS lists 25k less (with PDK ) but both carry expensive options and like for like there's not a great deal in it.

I did around 13k over 2 years in my old (07 plate) Vantage. It had a few electrical niggles but nothing major. Great car indeed and no engine issues to worry about (ahem).

The paintwork though, oh dear...

And my GT3 RS lost a coolant hose in France, had a slave cylinder clutch failure, problems with its cooling system and a dodgy coil pack.
Still the best car I have ever driven mind but absolutely not bomb proof.German cars not any better than British ones in reliability IME

Absolutely ,I’ve had 2 911 turbos both fail badly ,an 18 month old 996 turbo caught fire and blew up and a brand new 997 turbo had an electrical failure serious enough that I made Porsche take it back.
