As it seems more than likely that Bliar and his looney croonies are going to have another 5 years with their hands firmly clasped around our scrotums it has me wondering why, when the motoring public represents a significant majority of the population, we can't get rid of these car hating control freaks.

My personal opinion is that, whilst most people dislike current motoring legislation, a sense of guilt resigns them to the fact that they kind of deserve what they get - and only a minority of us have woken up to the fact that we're being well and truly screwed for no other reason than we appear powerless to fight back!

Because the majority of motorists are just honest hardworking people who are too busy earning a living in this soon to be up to our ears in shite economy to notice what the theiving turds are doing to our road network.

Can you honestly say that if you were indifferent to which car you owned you would give that much of a toss about it given all the other areas of policy we get violated by on a daily basis.

Don't be daft.

Just half the people who do drive are probably stupid.

Just because your an intelligent person, who happens to own a car, you realise.

I'm sure there are plenty of car owners who just don't realise how much they are paying, and are happy enough being ignorant.

I for one, with a £5k car and 30mpg, don't realise how some people on less income than me can justify a brand new £15k tdi car that gets 40mpg. Depreciation is huge compared to the fuel costs. But lots of average familiy car owners do it. Must be crackers!

...and I for one has just gone out and splashed a whole £2000 on a car which does 30MPG and comes with all of the toys.... and it has 12 months MOT and a service....

I for one will pocket the saving and put it towards having fun...!

...and I for one who six months ago spent £12k on a car which does no more than 20mpg and usually 12mpg although it does have all the toys.

I for one will drive it 'till the wheels fall off and have loads of fun! - stuff the saving, that's for when I'm old

Perhaps because we know it won't be one jot different with the other conservatives in. I can't even name one other than Howard.

Must say, I was very impressed with Patricia Hewitt on PM (R4) this evening. Not saying she's right or wrong, but she was very good on the prog. Think she's been having voice coaching, definitely shades of Thatcher creeping in.

They're all the same. We should have a mass non-vote.

It's non-voting that hands the country to the extremists.

No, the ones who ban cars and stuff.

The parties may not be ideal, but at least the majority represent 'normality'. If the general population become disinterested, the extremists dive in and dominate the vote. That's how Hitler got in.

Hitler would have been a Pistonheader though. He was a right-on automotive bloke, built cars, autobahns, loads of 'planes, tanks... and stuff.

Many a true word spoken in jest (I hope!).

Fact remains that he was a despotic, paranoid, insecure, meglomanic. History has proved that this is not a good recipe for governmental values or progression. This was empire building based on hate and indifference.

The extreme left wing model proved the same with Stalin- the greatest mass-murderer in history (so far).

That said, there are plenty such 'leaders' around just now- Mugabe etal.

What the difference for car owners between Blair and Howard,

Under Blair the Economy is doing well and you have to pay a small amount of tax on fuel for your car.

Under Howard the Economy returns to recession and the Finance Company has your car but at least Income Tax is low very helpful as you go down the dole.

Economy is (probably) going to take a little bit of a downturn whatever happens mate. Fact is, economic policy is basically to concentrate on inflation rate nowadays anyway (2% target rate, it's normally a little under), and this won't change whichever party you vote in. There's basially no demand management anymore, as it's assumed that the employment market will look after itself aslong as you keep inflation low. Plus it's the MPC that control interest rates, so i would be suprised if the economy changed noticably because of party policy no matter who got in.

Cheers,
Rob.

It seems to me that the general population were not at all disinterested. The turnouts were high, but times were extremely hard and people were voting for extreme solutions, but split between Left and Right. So there would have been some kind of extreme regime whichever wing had won.

Been watching a couple of party political broadcasts have we???

This economy is about to give the country a nasty suprise.

You look at the black hole in government funding (the PSBR) and the increased tax burden that have both been used to prop up this economic growth for the last couple of years. It is all going to have to be paid back at some point....... oh and the small issue of pension provision which is going to have Greedy Gordon exercising his social engineering agenda in our pockets.

I can't believe that there's a Labour voter on this forum! Wake up mate!!

If you want to know how things will be better under the Tories (in theory at least) - go to www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=policy.listing.page and download the "Free to travel" document. I know it's all talk at the moment but it has to be a step in the right direction.

Well there you have it. You tend to be less interested in the theory when you've had 18 years of solid proof.
