Just re-discovered the arcade game Super Galaxians..the noise is addictive, let alone firing like a monkey w4nking. I remember I used to play p1ssed in my early twenties on a screen embedded into a table top, over at the post-grad bar in Queens Univ - Belfast (to be exact). My wife found me a games console with all the old games on...moveover playstation This has been a very sad evening for a 46 year old..but brilliant..
What games did others used to play, and secretly would like to do so again?

There's a blinding exhibition on at the Barbican in London (not sure whether it's still on now). Me and a couple of work mates went along. Absolute blast, all the classics are there including Defender, Ping, Asteriods, RType. Sadly, no Outrun though.

I certainly left there eager to resurect my Amiga 500 and CPC464 (Bombjack - hmm).

There's also a MAME emulator for windows CE. Been playing with it recently.

Bugger, just found the link and it's finished now www.gameonweb.co.uk but it looks like its on in Scotland in October.

Now were's my propeller cap gone...

Fookin' hell.

Bomb Jack! That brings back memories. Also International Karate + (IK+). Sorry but Barbarian was also a firm fav. Ability to knock off someone's block always kept me playing.

Good morning.

Them were the days when you could go in with 40p and be in the arcades all day. Now there are machines which cost 2-4 quid to have a game which lasts all of 2 minutes.

You sure it wasn't called Space Firebird? If so, you can get it for mame32....

Definately Phoenix, once you'd blasted all the shitehawks you got to have a go at an egg shaped spaceship witha big bugger inside.

Yup. They had an old flat top version of Phoenix at Braemar youth hostel when I was a lad. Went there skiing every year and you coud lift up the broken lid to push the freeplay button and play all night.

Right, just checked - the ROM is available for mame32 (do a web search for phoenix.zip & mame32)
Having quickly played it just now, I do vaguely remember it.

Pheonix is also available for Mame, excellent game the tune at the start was cool (at the time). Space firebird is a different game altogether. How sad am I? I have built my own arcade controllers to play these old games on my PC.
