My Seat Ibiza Cupra 1.4tsi

Been meaning to put a post up about my new toy ahem I mean car, its a 1.4 Ibiza cupra in a rather fetching white with ST coilovers and a Miltek exhaust (yes im crazy I bought a modified car!)


about 2 weeks after buying it I felt I needed to see how quick it was so a track day at Snetterton was booked.


I love Piston Heads and reading about peoples cars so I thought I would share for once, In the past I have had Skoda`s and the skoda forum, briskoda is such a fantastic forum there is a lot of love for the marque on there, I thought I would find the seat version and OMG its basically one of those forums where people post things like I was driving down the M3 and my car broke down, so hopefully Pistonheads will be my go to forum.

It's been at the max mark since I bought it, this has the cthe engine so finger crossed.

I think the engine is pretty solid, I have seen the posts about the fragile 1.4tsi engine and to be honest I almost passed on it but touch wood it's fine. The things that need immediate attention are the brakes and tyres. The brake pedal feels spongey and snatchy. The wheels are the original ones which have gone very hard.

Tyres arrived from black circles can't wait to get these fitted.



Some decent brake fluid and ebc yellow stuff pads all round to go on as well.

Good to see you are enjoying your Ibiza OP.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for sporty Seats since I bought an early Leon Cupra back in 2003 - it was a great car!

Toyo T1R's were at best an average tyre 10 years ago.

Many, many better options out there.

Toyo T1R’s are to this day, the only tyre I’ve taken off a car.

Utterly horrendous.

Nice car, you’ll detest the tyres, they’re horrific.

I changed them to Uniroyal Rain Experts and it was an absolute revelation.

Brakes & wheels are on the car but managed to scrape the bumper and alloy on my garage entrance. Bugger!

The back end always felt all over the place, I was really disappointed but there are still plenty of people who rate them.

I changed them to Uniroyal Rain Experts and it was an absolute revelation.

The toyos have been driven in this mental heat for about 100 miles I haven't had any issues but I haven't pushed them to the limit, the combination of 4 new tyres and a laser alignment has made the car feel very grippy compared with the worn out 4 year old tyres that where previously on the car, the real test will be on a track day.

I have Uniroyals on my golf and find they are a bit soft otherwise I would have gone for them as they are very good in the wet and let's face it 9 months out of the year it pours with rain.

I managed to get down to the track today, it was another boiling hot day and the tyres coped well the brakes seem to last as well with no brake sponginess compared to my last track day, it was lap after lap of consistent braking, the tyres suffered in the heat but I didn't feel as though they were lacking in grip, I felt for the price they were excellent. Although I am under no illusions that better tyres exist, there were other cars sporting these wheels but I must admit they were the slower cars on the track.
