Weber Conversion Help

OK, so I've got my '73 TVR 2500M with its tempermental Strombergs. I've also got two different Weber conversion kits to play with - a complete DCOE40 set with manifold and a pair of 32/36DGV carbs with Canon manifolds. Both were bought on eBay and this week I decided to put on the 32/36 set to run around for a while before dealing with the sidedraft set and header and the apparently required chassis cutting.
But, to my surprise, when I went to mount the rear 32/36 carb, I found that it too has clearance problems. I'd really prefer to not have to cut up my heater box (it is a LH drive car) and even though I do live in L.A., it would be nice to retain the heater for resale purposes.
I'm sure others have gone through this. It runs fairly well with the Strombergs, but it's way too lean (there's a stage II cam in it), so I need to get one or the other of these Weber sets installed.
Can anyone give me some tips from their own experience.
