Track Day Insurance
Discussion
Hi,
Off to Spa next week for the Classic event, have track laps on Saturday.
Usually track an Elise, we have track day cover as part of our insurance, however taking a 911 along so need cover for a 25 minute session.
Have a quote from Morris (£190.00) and also insuremytrackday (410.00
), just wondering who others use and what sort of premium you're being quoted.
Many thanks

I use MORIS, and it does seem expensive for a 25 minute session, but they've probably priced on a per day basis.
My premium for the 'Ring goes down every year (as a loyal, non-claiming customer obviously), and I get a discount for multi-day policies.
My last cover was about £240 for 4 days - but that was only covering £15k of car.
Most other insurers are the same, in that they charge you for the whole day, not just for a 15/20/30 minute session. I suppose their thinking is you are as likely to have an accident in 25 minutes as you are in the whole day, and they're covering the same risk.

Henderson Taylor - it's an S1 Elise. Premium is £340, 2 drivers, 5k miles pa, 5 track days cover included.
Very good to deal with, they don't insure all cars though. Speak to Matthew.
Thanks for the replies, Morris have quoted £186 which looks like it'll be the best I can get. Ah well...

I found Moris most competitive on price (unless track days included in the regular insurance policy), but daily rates are still expensive even if you had more than 10 track days before with no claims.
Multiple days are much better, particularly if you dont change days/ tracks subsequently (@14.95 per change if I recall correctly).
I actually spoke to Justin Everitt from Moris directly why 1/2 day policies are basically same price as full day, and its the same reason mentioned in the thread above - they dont know how much time on track you will spend and how the risk assessment give them roughly the same number

You could also try Classicline. 01455 639000
I am 64 and have a good record, but insure a 4.6 turbo TVR with them, unlimited mileage and 4 track days a year for under £500 a year. But I guess they estimate risk, and I haven't had any claims on any of the cars insured with them, despite doing around 30 track days and not holding back.

I'm using Reis motorsport insurance on Friday at Abingdon two drivers me and daughter she is 19 (daily driver a 1 litre Yaris....so hopefully be a treat in my Mx5)
excess is £500 for £5000 cover was fee of £108.98
They also do not restrict how much the labour rate would be to repair the vehicle on a crunch...some do
It helps to read the small print
As said above some insurance companies will give you a couple or 3 track days a year included in your premium for road use. i will go down that route next time i renew for the road as it works out cheaper long run
Hopefully we will not need it!

I've used Moris several times now and find Justin very reasonable to deal with and competitively priced , always some wiggle room on their initial quote...I don't understand how Insure my trackday write any business complete fantasy numbers. Also do full days rather than smaller sessions as he price will not reflect that
For everyone taking out track day insurance.
It's not like normal road insurance.
You are ONLY covering damage to your own car.
Not to other people.
Not to you.
Not to other people's cars.
Not to any claim from the owner of the scenery that you have just hit. (The Ring charges you if you bend their barriers, and I wouldn't be surprised if other circuits did too)
Everyone signs a disclaimer when entering a track day, but that reads more like it is indemnifying the organisers, not saying that you drive on track at your own risk. However, that's the reality. You are there at your own risk. You and your car. If someone else drives like a total arse, breaks all the rules and hits you, you still cannot claim off them.
Next point - the excess is 10% of your car's value, not 10% of the claim. So if your car is say a new(ish) M3 or M4, then you are in for £6,000+ in the event of any claim. So anything other than something pretty major won't be covered.
Final point - if you do claim, it has to be declared as an accident to your regular road insurer. In my case, with a track day inclusive deal, my road insurer will know anyway. But I have several cars, and it will be declarable to all the insurers.
I am not trying to frighten you off....just trying to make you aware so you don't go out there thinking "I'll be fine, it's no different to normal road insurance", and then finding out that it isn't.
Having said all of this, two car collisions on track days are very rare - I have seen two in over 30 track days. Own car into barrier is a bit more common.
